We thus far kinda travel 🥸 incognito. There is an old family photo on one of the old reviews in my signature if you’re just that curious what you’re dealing with. My family isn’t sure how they feel about my live reviews and I’m not allowed to blog anything during trivia. Because SOAS baby! That’s probably the best place to spot me and I’m one of those 5 or so on every cruise who plays every game like it’s my primary reason to exist while the rest of the ship is off loosening up and getting hammered on the Lido, Serenity or the casino. The trivia player that the other teams glare at because I’m trynna bogart all the glory. If you figure it out, it’s safe to approach and I will be pleasantly surprised and flattered, but I won’t be flaunting any custom branded Kmom blue and yellow t-shirts, beach towels, luggage tags, rubber ducks or commemorative pins. That’s the last thing we need!! BTW I really really like Jersey City and have stayed there when we took our kiddo to NYC and primarily the Statue of Liberty years ago. Very convenient and I’ve read The Stand so I prefer to stay on the mainland just in case. 1

I’m interested to see how we like a more vintage, Farcasized Carnival experience after 2 RCI then Mardi Gras, all considerably larger and more tastefully appointed than Spirit class. I’m pretty sure we’ll like it fine. 27 minutes ago, Hogladyrider said: Way to go on the negative tests results.....now you can DEFINITELY get the party started! Yes it feels real now! Thanks to everyone who’s joined us. Weather is cool, sunny and dry and we are about T minus two hours from liftoff here at the Cape.

Rare KmomChicago Posted December 18, 2021 Author #38 Share Posted December 18, 2021 (edited) Since this is a live review, we’ve passed Indianapolis, which was not all that much fun between construction and cold drizzle, and are settled in at our interstate hotel rooms for the night. 25% of drive complete. We got KFC drive through and all the lines at all the places were long due to the labor shortage, particularly at these crappy restaurant jobs. Service was good and helpful though and the food is tasty and the order correct. Good night! Edited December 18, 2021 by KmomChicago

BlueHawaii Posted December 18, 2021 #40 Share Posted December 18, 2021 Hi KMom, We're on the Legend the week after you so I'm very curious to hear how your trip goes. We've been on the Carnival Pride a number of times, but this will be the first time on the Legend. We're pretty stressed out about getting the covid test on Christmas Eve, but aside from that we're really excited for our first cruise in 2 years.

mondello Posted December 18, 2021 #42 Share Posted December 18, 2021 Hope you have a Legendary cruise. Be sure to wave when you drive by. Be careful driving through downtown Columbus. I-71 intersects I-70 just south of downtown, I71/I70 continue for a stretch then I71 splits off to the north. They've tried to redesign it but it can still be crappy in heavy traffic.

Happens a couple of times on our own I57 in Illinois heading south and it’s usually a few miles of what feels like 6x traffic but should theoretically only be double. Plus we’ll likely have rain and I’ll be worried about slipping. When in doubt I stay to the right and drive at a sensible speed for conditions, no cursing speed demon here.

You should be fine, especially being used to it at home. Staying to the right will keep you on I70. Just gets hairy in heavy traffic when they're trying to get over to make the split. I've been following along, making witty posts in my head but not hitting submit. Love your posts when you get profound, agree not everyone gets it. I'm pretty sure we grew up in parallel universes. Rare KmomChicago Posted December 18, 2021 Author #45 Share Posted December 18, 2021 We made it to the suburbs of Baltimore. Last night we stopped in Greenfield Indiana and had rooms on points, one at the Holiday Inn Express where we had a very large, comfortable, slightly dated room, and the other at the Fairfield Inn, which still has the new hotel smell as well as the shine and sleek decor. It was very nice though the room’s dimensions were much smaller. When I was younger, the excitement of travel gave me a near bulletproof adrenaline rush to manage all the stress of getting to destinations and feel like I was having fun in the process. I’m sorry to say (at 55 now) I don’t so much get that anymore. I do still happily anticipate the vacation but drive or flight days are just an exhausting drag. Im looking forward to boarding tomorrow but I can say with some certainty this is the last long road trip I want to take. Probably ever. This is also why I started my Mardi Gras review two days after boarding. It took that long to calm down and get into the groove. 5
kelkel2 Posted December 18, 2021 #46 Share Posted December 18, 2021 oh man, you drive from the Chicago area? How long of a drive is it? We live about 2 hours south of Chicago. We considered it at one point but our kids are just too young and we chose sanity and more money for flights. We will drive to Chicago to fly southwest though!

I’d totally do it if it were my husband and I or if my kids were older. I actually love driving and it doesn’t bother me a bit. But we have 3 year old twins, the furthest we’ve done in the car is to Kentucky. Florida is a whole different story.

Or the irritating logistics of getting to a daggone port. It’s leaving these two, both of whom were pandemic era acquisitions. Yes they are rescues but as is often the case, they seem to have rescued us. We know the feeling! Two dogs (three til recently 😪), Four ferrets and five turtles (all different subspecies)... but guess what! It makes the morning of debarkation A JOY! We are among the first off the ship and first back home to bask in the love of our zoo!
