Picture-A-Week 2022 - Week 02

Recommended Posts

Pictures taken between Monday, January 10 and Sunday, January 16.

We made it to week two! Take some photos to celebrate!

Rules: See above

That's it. This isn't a contest.

All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising).

Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize.

The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays.

Post one. Post many. Up to you.

Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

From what I can find online, I believe it to be a diamond python which are non-venomous (but can apparently still inflict a nasty bite).

Looks like a diamond python.  Probably the only thing that won’t kill you 🤣🤣😜

It looks like some of the things that made 2021 less shiny than it could have been have carried over to cloud the promise of unicorns joyously pooping rainbows across the country in 2022. Last year we suffered supply chain interruptions of many products. Meat and milk were disrupted when demand fell as schools and restaurants were closed or restricted. With no demand, the supply side ramps back and it takes time to raise cattle to the point where they can be milked or made into steaks when demand returns. Empty shelves are bad and retailers have taken to filling them with the stock they have to maintain appearances. This would be less obvious if they took the Corned Beef Brisket sign off the case filled with boxes of potatoes.

We finally got a nice blast of cold this weekend - that reached all the way down here to S Florida.  With that also came many more wintering birds and ducks who were fleeing the extreme cold farther north.  Winter migration has been very slow this year, but picked up this weekend...here are some of the wintering friends from this Saturday:

American wigeon:

Egyptian geese:

A lifer for me...my first ever gadwall:

The beautiful wood duck drake in his full breeding plumage:

Interestingly, the only gadwall in the pond seemed to have paired off with an American wigeon - they were very close and stuck together.  Maybe soon, we'll have ourselves some American gadwigeon ducklings:

The male hooded merganser:

Of course, the locals were still around...like this green heron:

Or this American coot, showing off his very funky feet:
