I think it is hard to be a refugee….and not be part of the family. Here’s hoping we enjoy Encore…..May need a future home!
hoosier74 Posted January 29, 2022 #29 Share Posted January 29, 2022 Greetings Crystal Refugees I can't imagine how upsetting this is, although I think everyone, on every line, has been imagining some sort of this scenario for two years. Our first Lux cruise was on a Regent ship on a transatlantic. I had wanted to do Seabourn but my husband was apprehensive about the little ships (200 passengers) on the Atlantic in March. We thoroughly enjoyed our Regent experience but still wanted to try Seabourn, so the next year we did on a 7 day Caribbean cruise that had a fabulous Roll Call ( we made some lifelong friends) and were completely sold on Seabourn. Our Crystal friends are not leaving Crystal because they want to or even because they want to try something else. I've not been on Crystal but you are leaving a product you loved. I can only compare it to having to give up the small ships (the little sisters as they are referred to on this board) and moving to the larger ships. Comparisons are inevitable and unfavorable comparisons may be frequent, but I hope you find things on Seabourn that you like. Seabourn sailors are really a friendly bunch and the crews are wonderful. I hope you have a good travel agent who has some Seabourn knowledge. Please continue to post on these boards and look for a roll call. They may not be as active, but if you happen on one that is, it's a great way to meet folks before your cruise. Happy travels. 7
calliopecruiser Posted January 29, 2022 #30 Share Posted January 29, 2022 I'm another Crystal refugee, but booked on the Encore in November. Almost the same itinerary as the Crystal cruise I cancelled - but it's really the sea days, not the ports, that I love.

HI NANCY!!! We could answer question, since tomorrow was to have been the start of our 11th Seabourn cruise, but we cancelled. 😞 However, we are now binge-watching your fantastic videos, up to episode 10 in Alaska now. Scott, guessing from the film decorations on the wall at home, that you are in the film industry. More importantly, (and potentially much more expensive), what camera did you use to take the videos? Rare FlyingScotSailors Posted January 30, 2022 #32 Share Posted January 30, 2022 Update: We finished Alaska. On to the next! We laughed out loud a few times per episode. The music is great. After the new camera (see post # 31), what editing software do we need?

Thank you so much for your kind words about our videos! I'm so sorry you had to cancel your cruise. We've lost TWO cruises in the past two years. (First world problems but it still hurts like hell). My camera is a Sony HDRCX330 from 2015. It is now a discontinued model. My editing software is simply the Movie Maker app that came with an ancient version of Windows. I am WAY too computer UNsavy to play with new things. I'm 65 and I drink excessively. Please enjoy all our other videos and again, thank you for your kindness. tv24 Posted January 30, 2022 #36 Share Posted January 30, 2022 Scott & Drew: We too have enjoyed your videos. And we have sailed Crystal. Crystal's enrichment program was the best in the industry and while you will enjoy the presentations on Seabourn, they will not match. Otherwise, we vastly prefer Seabourn. We find it a much more lively convivial experience. I think you will enjoy your sailing. I hope you will enjoy your sailing. We are booked on the 2023 Seabourn World Cruise. We booked the 2016 Crystal World Cruise but canceled it because we had been snubbed by Crystal passengers on a 2015 Indian Ocean crossing. Bon voyage. Create a wonderful entertaining video for all of us to enjoy!

I switched from Canon to Sony even though I had a son-in-law who worked for Canon. Enjoying your videos, and maybe we'll see you on Seabourn, as that's our next stop after our beloved Crystal.
Covepointcruiser Posted January 30, 2022 #38 Share Posted January 30, 2022 We are sailing today (pier side COVID test depending) on the Ovation. It will be different with masks required inside unless you are actively eating or drinking. We brought a huge stack of N95 and KN 94. I prefer the later while hubby prefers the former. Seabourn is always wonderful, but it will be different with masks. My husband is hard of hearing and the masks make it much more difficult so I will translate. You are never short of places to eat and you can scan the menus the evening before to help with your decision. Did Crystal have hosted tables? If Seabourn has them on this cruise they are a great option to meet officers, entertainment staff, lecturers and other passengers over dinner. You will get an invite a day or two in advance. The casino is quite small so if you like a large casino you will miss it on Seabourn.
SLSD Posted January 30, 2022 #39 Share Posted January 30, 2022 CwazeandCwaze, I've just watched the Misty Fjord video and absolutely loved it. First, I almost cried, because I've seen those same sights and loved them so much (on our last Seabourn cruise before the pandemic). Then, I watched the rest of the video and laughed and laughed. I sincerely hope that Mr. SLSD and I will meet you on a future Seabourn cruise. You are going to be a fabulous addition to the passenger group. I will be watching ALL of your videos now. I do believe that you will enjoy Seabourn--perhaps just as much as Crystal. I hope so!

We are in Owner's Suite 700 (we are already aware of the limited balcony views and windows facing the public area). My problem is this: The website is really limited with general information. Can you, dear people, help with the things we should know before we sail? Is there a place to find out exactly what our room steward will do for us? Is there a list of available spirits for our room and how often it will be refilled? What should we know about dining? But MOST importantly, because Seabourn is BRAND new to us, what should we expect in general. I thank you all, in advance, for you kind responses. Our very best always, Scott & Drew (Cwaze and Cwaze) also Crystal refugees. thinking about this trip. so far, everything I read sounds promising. even has piano entertainment at night! and shows and gambling! We love Seabourn because of the customers. People are always pleasant and it is a fun cruise line. Additionally the cabins are very nice. It looks like this is becoming a Crystal board. I hope the demographics of the passenger doesn’t change.

I’m wondering if it’s combinable with the shipboard credit I’ll be receiving from the Amex cruise privileges program? I did ask the question on the thread but no responses. per seabourns website, it’s not combinable with shipboard credits from 3rd parties. The Amex obc is slightly more.
