stowawaykc Posted March 4, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 4, 2006 Can any one tell me where is the best place to buy some? Is it sold in whole bean? I have heard it is around $20.00 a pound, and that there will be folks trying to pawn off other coffee, saying it is the same. Any advise would be appreciated! Thanks! bound4somewhere Posted March 4, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 4, 2006 Hi there Kurt. I've bought some in Negril years back at their local supermarket. I would imagine it's a bit cheaper there than in a touristy shop and I can remember it being offered as whole and ground. I've heard people mention that their should be some sort of official seal on the bag...don't think I even checked. In my opinion I think Blue Mtn. Coffee is the best. Very smooth and yummy! We're getting close fellow shipmate:D Kathy

CJC Posted March 5, 2006 #10 Share Posted March 5, 2006 What does anyone know about eight rivers casino? I know the cruise has one but heard ther is a casino near the village marketplace. Thanks for any info. Found mention of it at this link: http://www.jamaicahomecoming.com/global/features_general.aspx?guid=bcff7835-12ee-4e65-92c8-04595be752cc It is at the Island Village complex at the pier. http://www.islandvillageja.com/islandvillage.htm Please be aware the Jamaican casinos are essentially only slot and video machines. Other legalized gambling is horseracing, and lotto. Other links referencing other Jamaican casinos: http://jamaica-guide.info/attractions/casinos/ Casinos There are no casinos in Jamaica as such, however quite a few hotels have what are known as gaming lounges. These have slot machines and automated games. Terra Nova All Suite Hotel, New Kingston The Monte Carlo Gaming Room has 100 slot machines, roulette machines and a horse racing machine, plus off track betting via live satellite. The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston, 45 slot machines Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort, Montego Bay 50 slot machines Coral Cliff, Montego Bay 120 slot machines with free drinks during play Treasure Hunt Gaming, Ocho Rios Over 80 slot machines plus a variety of automated games including roulette, dice, bingo, poker and a horse-racing machine, plus a cocktail bar. CJC Posted March 5, 2006 #11 Share Posted March 5, 2006 Can any one tell me where is the best place to buy some?Is it sold in whole bean? I have heard it is around $20.00 a pound, and that there will be folks trying to pawn off other coffee, saying it is the same. Any advise would be appreciated! Thanks! Kurt Grocery stores have a good price. But be aware tho they take US cash, the change will be in JA dollars. Mavis Bank and Jablum is the brands you should basically look for. Never pay more than $20 US for a pound. Bags come in 4 oz, 8 oz, 12 oz, and 16 oz bags. I have even seen it in 5 lb bags! Yes it does come in bean (the only way I buy it). It also comes in bottles like the Starbuck Fruppacinos (yummy!). We have a good relationship with a shop accross the street from Sandals Royal Carib in Mobay and don't pay anymore than what you pay at the aiport (which has good prices too). Resorts, obviously, have the worst prices. The prices at the Island Village seem a little high to us too but it is convenient. JA High Mtn. coffee, tho not as good as Blue, is also very good and cheaper. It also comes instant if that's what you like. Just becareful who you buy from for the Blue. Louise34 Posted March 11, 2006 #15 Share Posted March 11, 2006 Interested in a free margarita in Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville in Jamaica? Just go to the web site listed in the thread from CJC, above, for the island village, open up the link to Buffets, click on stores, and under "signs" you will see salt shakers at the bottom, click on it and when printed will get you a free Margarita. If you want two, you have to go back into signs to print another. Good luck
