What is a 30% discount worth?

We sailed out of Barbados on MSC Seaview in the Yacht Club on the 4th of January 2022 and due to covid on the ship we missed some of our ports on the itinerary and of those we visited we were not allowed off in most of them due to covid.  Early in the cruise we received a letter from the Captain with the wording “Due to the above unforeseen circumstances which are out of our control MSC cruises decided to grant you $200 of shipboard credit per cabin plus a discount of 30% for a future cruise (please contact your agency with this statement)”

We paid £6,620 for the cruise so 30% represents a figure of £1,986 if it was off the price we paid for this cruise.

We decided to use the credit for a further cruise on MSC Virtuosa in the Yacht Club sailing on the 16th of July 2022 out of Southampton.  The initial price for the cruise was £9,118 so we thought 30% off would be a reduction of £2,735 or the lesser figure of £1,986.

How wrong we were, after the efforts of our travel agent we received £747 discount, how did they come by this figure?

I wonder how others on the January cruise have gone on with the 30% discount that was not 30%?

You should be asking the travel agent that after all they are your agent.

Demand a breakdown or get another travel agent. Or contact MSC direct and get a price to make sure the travel agent isn't putting it in their pocket.

My sailing last month was with a 30% off casino paper.

Cost of cruise as shown on website was 30% discounted then ports added.
