JTBCruiser Posted February 21, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2022 Does the casino charge to break 50s down to 10s 5s and 1s? During the cruise I'd like to get smaller bills vs carrying a wad of 5s and 1s. Thx!

smokeybandit Posted February 21, 2022 #3 Share Posted February 21, 2022 I've never had guest services charge to make change.
Sunshine3601 Posted February 21, 2022 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2022 If you want to use sea pass at casino they will charge you a 5% fee to get cash. If you simply want to break a $50 or $20 into smaller bills, no charge at casino. You can also do this at guest services.
alexgtp Posted February 21, 2022 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2022 Some ships have bill breakers/ticket cash out machines. You can use those to make change. On Freedom I was limited to breaking 1 $20 per day. But they let my wife and I each break $20's made no sense. LOL Anthem - luckily had a bill breaker

My experience has been that if you already have the cash they will break it down for free.
nelblu Posted February 21, 2022 #7 Share Posted February 21, 2022 Never got charged in either place. The casino has a kiosk/machine to cash in the casino ticket and also to break big bills, however, when in port it's not available.
STEVE-O Posted February 21, 2022 #8 Share Posted February 21, 2022 I guess if they got stinky, you could buy chips at the blackjack table and walk them over to the cashier............
Tlbecker1 Posted February 21, 2022 #9 Share Posted February 21, 2022 We have never been charged for asking for different bills in the casino or at guest services.

Rare JessyCruises Posted February 21, 2022 #11 Share Posted February 21, 2022 (edited) I have never been charged at the cage to break a bill into smaller. The only time I ever had an issue was when I was trying to break a $20 into $1s. They could only give me 10 $1s and 1 $10 as they were running low. pcur Posted February 21, 2022 #12 Share Posted February 21, 2022 I just got off a b2b on the Navigator, and went to Guest Services several times to break my larger bills into $1's that I use to tip bar and restaurant staff. As already posted, they don't charge to do this.

Cigar King Posted February 21, 2022 #15 Share Posted February 21, 2022 FWIW, my wife goes to the bank before we cruise. She has a pouch she keeps tip money in. If we use it all up, then we get change onboard. Usually she gets plenty though.
resetjet Posted February 21, 2022 #16 Share Posted February 21, 2022 Why not just bring $200 in ones???? We tip everyone we can a dollar ot two. Its not much but it adds up for these folks.

I carry large bills on the ship, then break them down as needed. I have been limited to only $10 in singles in the casino before, though -- they don't seem to have many small bills in the cashier cage. But never a problem at Guest Services. I obviously don't carry all my cash around with me on board, but the getting-to-the-ship is the part that would be a pain for me. A stack of bills like that doesn't easily or safely or comfortably fit in a pocket of any women's clothing I've ever known.

We carry ours in the backpack, with the passports, medicines we need, and stuff we want right away. We also save our 5's and 1's between cruises for just this purpose.

It's still easier for me to just carry large bills and change as I go along. When cruising for a month or longer at a time, you're talking about a LOT of bulk in singles.

I use a pouch from Amazon to carry cash in my shoulder computer bag (which I carry even if I don't have a computer along). They are a bit bigger than a standard envelope, mesh with a zipper. I carry extra US currency, and those international currencies that I hold onto for later use (Euro, Pounds, Yen, HKD, Baht, Won, and a few more). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BRNSQWY/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07BRNSQWY&pd_rd_w=RFTuv&pf_rd_p=0c758152-61cd-452f-97a6-17f070f654b8&pd_rd_wg=AXFnj&pf_rd_r=VNKCCWEYAKS06ABETQ6Z&pd_rd_r=50dbf391-839f-44e5-8e75-e7c1c56347c3&s=office-products&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFGMjBFUFhXSDIzMEUmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA2Mzc0NzMyQzRURUUzODM1T1NOJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0NzE0MTEzS1BKRUpDVU5CQlRWJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfZGV0YWlsJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==
