Cruise a holic Posted March 2, 2022 #226 Share Posted March 2, 2022 6 minutes ago, mfs2k said: I just spent another weekend maskless at a big Atlantic City casino. I’m double vaxxed and double boosted and I had a positive PCR test in December despite having no symptoms. I have several risk factors for severe Covid but I’m not afraid anymore. I believe I have strong immunity and I’m willing to be unmasked in crowded spaces if masks are optional. As I write this I’m masked along with everyone else on a packed commuter bus to NYC. I have no problem wearing a mask when required and it’s nice to know the woman coughing 3 rows behind me has a mask on. If there’s a mask requirement on my cruise it wouldn’t deter me from having a good time. I’d prefer no masks but I’m not cancelling my vacation unless I or my wife have Covid or the situation worsens in the next 7 months. I’m ready and willing to go on a maskless cruise in October but if someone is coughing near me I’ll be wondering if they’re spreading Covid or other germs my way. Maybe everyone who has a cold should wear a mask when out and about. Is that really a bad idea to protect people around you? Some people have become so defiantly against masks they’ve stopped caring about other people. That’s wrong. if in a crowd will definately wear a mask- fortunately minimal smokers on ships now, but if near any smoking area- I will also wear a mask. Cannot stand the smell-
mfs2k Posted March 2, 2022 #227 Share Posted March 2, 2022 I used to work for a boss who expected everyone to come to work, sick or not. About 6 years ago I had a bad cold and cough. I sat with the other 10 managers in the bosses office for our morning meeting and wore a basic surgical mask like we’re all now familiar with. The other 9 in the office laughed about the mask and thought it was ridiculous and believed I was just being a jokester. Boy how times have changed. You come into a meeting now with a bad cough I’d hope you’d wear a mask or connect via zoom and stay home.

Keeping us safe(r) when others will not, is a positive (not the virus, LOL)... In health and bon voyage Cruising as a niche probably can survive just about any protocol. I hope you are correct for the big lines. The major lines are loosening protocols probably to try to make a profit. I still think people who say they mask need to specify that they wear a N95 because otherwise there is no science to support their habit. So far a couple of hours is about all I can stand to wear a N95. Going to try to wear one for most (I will drink and eat) of a 3 hour flight. And of course that always begs the point why is it save to eat and drink without the mask vs. sit and read a book? Since I cruise this weekend I think I will live the boards for awhile and think happy thoughts 🙂 Cheers to All! 1

For the record, I don't want to sit next to you in an uncrowded venue. 😉 The basis of the question was are you ready to go back to pre-Covid behavior. If you are ready to sit next to me and other strangers in a crowded theatre or bar and it really doesn't bother you, good for you. I'm not sure most people are ready for that. I don't think the focus fell on my response to your actual question 😄

Some of the newer KN95 mask designs are more comfortable. BTW the free government ones that CVS is giving away are more like a ridged coffee filter and not comfortable at all. The funny thing is they are made in China too. We have long flights to Italy in August and if masks are still required, I will find some comfortable KN95 masks to take. Watch the Congress will announce today they are going back to masks required, this was a mere political ploy for the SOU address. What changed between Monday and yesterday? 1

Calico Jack Sparrow Posted March 2, 2022 #240 Share Posted March 2, 2022 Well, my cousin just returned from a great cruise on the Summit. She brought back a little gift-Covid. I will continue to wear a mask-indoors...most of the time. Even bought myself some new cloth masks for my cruise.

Are you really ready to return to a pre-Covid world? Are you really comfortable sitting elbow to elbow in the theatre, bar or restaurant with a bunch of strangers? Are you really ready to get packed with 8 or 9 other people in an elevator? Everyone has been enjoying ships sailing at 50% or less capacity but are you really ready to experience a packed cruise ship? I don't plan on wearing a mask but I'm still going to be concerned about areas without social distancing. Yes. In my area we've been living like this since last summer. My state dropped the mask mandate and all restrictions in June, 2021. Restaurants, sporting events, concerts, etc. have been running at full capacity since. If I look at the pictures from the last concert we attended, except for a mask here or there, you wouldn't know this was in 2022 instead of 2019. I won't be wearing a mask on our upcoming cruises and I certainly won't be judging any other person for either wearing one or for not wearing one. Nor would I ever judge someone else for not wanting to sit directly next to people or be packed in an elevator. That's something people didn't like, even before Covid and not always because of the fear of illnesses.

I have looked at those, we will need to them for flying otherwise they stay home. We have flights to St Thomas in May and Italy in August and unfortunately if you refuse to wear a mask you will get removed from the plane and be put on a no-fly list with the airline. We fly first or business class, so we do not have to sit with strangers. Last September on a flight from Buffalo to Atlanta the woman sitting behind us kept complaining to the flight attendants about the woman across the aisle from her for not putting her mask back on fast enough in-between bites of food and sips of her drink. We are turning our citizens into mask police. In fact, one of the other passengers asked the complaining woman who made her the mask police and the whole first-class cabin applauded.

I know what you mean, but don't you think about the other people around you on the plane? You still have "strangers" all around you.
