dkata Posted March 9, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2022 Anybody have actual experience taking the Viking River Cruise 2 hour tour of Vienna? Does it just drive around showing you the sites? There is a Lippanzer Horse Riding School Performance (Not a Training show, but an actual performance) on the Sunday the boat is in Vienna and we are thinking of skipping the included tour and doing the performance on our own. Thank you in advance for any information or insight.
CCJack Posted March 13, 2022 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2022 I seem to remember (from a couple years ago) that they had the 2 hour driving tour advertised, but they also had a walking tour - which was not offered before the trip. It sounded like it depended on the availability of the walking guide. Anyway, we did that one and it was quite good. Mostly walking around the old historic government buildings - from the Hapsburg times, etc. The architecture is impressive there.. That said, I think I would go for the Lippanzer performance. That sounds fun.
tysmomm Posted March 21, 2022 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2022 Go for the Lippanzer performance! I have never been and will actually be sailing in two weeks, but I have done EXTENSIVE research, talking to many many bloggers about the included vienna excursions and they are literally drive-bys with a bit of walking, but mostly everyone said they were disappointing. We hired a private guide for the day. Good luck!
Canal archive Posted March 21, 2022 #4 Share Posted March 21, 2022 As long as you keep an eye on the time when you need to be back at your ship etc., Vienna is a fairly easy city to navigate decide where you want to go and set out for an adventure. CPT Trips Posted March 21, 2022 #5 Share Posted March 21, 2022 If you decide to explore independently, using the ship’s bus to get into town should get you to a good starting point for almost anywhere you’ll want to go. There is an UBahn station about a kilometer or so from the main river port, so returning is fai easy.
