Sstn Posted March 9, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2022 Sailing for the first time with stock benefit. Rules state: This benefit is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash and, cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account. Is this strictly enforced since I rarely spend extra onboard beyond gratuities? If so, I've seen some comments about purchasing Carnival Cash Cards onboard. Can the stock OBC be used for that if gratuities and casino cashout aren't any option?

Can the stock OBC be used for that if gratuities and casino cashout aren't any option? We were able to use our OBC for gratuities in January. I know the newest letter says it can't but it is the same wording as last years shareholders newsletter that applied to our cruise. It would be helpful if someone who has sailed recently could provide more current information.
Fourkids4us Posted March 14, 2022 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2022 I used mine in the Casino 2/25. I didn't buy anything else on the cruise except drink gratuity(had cheers) and $14,99 socks in the shop.

Currently you can request for sailing through 07/31/2022. It is advised to request at least three weeks in advance. If your sailing is before the end of July I'd suggest sending your request now. It can take a couple of weeks for everything to process.
firstcruise92 Posted March 14, 2022 #8 Share Posted March 14, 2022 You can now request for sailing through 7/31/2023. I requested and received credit for a cruise we are taking in October on Mardi Gras.

rj59 Posted March 15, 2022 #11 Share Posted March 15, 2022 I've found that all the Carnival brands put a proviso that a lot of OBC can't be used for gratuities, but in practice they have no way of separating it out from the shipboard account. The only difference with Carnival is that I believe they don't charge all your gratuities until later in the cruise, whereas Princess and HAL charge every night, so you can keep track of your balance easier. If you can't find a way to spend it on transfers, coffee or alcohol drinks, or gift shop stuff, you can look at buying a future cruise deposit, which I've done on Princess to help get rid of. Trying an excursion also is a way to burn OBC and create a new experience and travel memory, instead of just walking around a port.

That is so strange - I have been on 6 cruises since July and that is all I have used my shareholder OBC for (casino and/or gratuities). I had to go to Guest Services on Radiance in January (unrelated issue) but they clearly told me my shareholder OBC would be applied to the first outstanding balance items on my card (which happened to be casino charges) and that is exactly how it worked.

Fang8494 Posted March 17, 2022 #20 Share Posted March 17, 2022 Sent my request for an OBC for owning 100 shares of Carnival stock in today. I was reading an article and it said Carnival recently has been denying OBC stock requests for cruises that have been booked with a VIFP offer, senior discount, etc. Has anyone recently been denied an OBC for having a cruise booked with these offers? Hate to get my hopes up when chances are slim it might not come through. Thanks!
Rare ninjacat123 Posted March 17, 2022 #21 Share Posted March 17, 2022 Go ahead and submit. I have discounted rates on my next two cruises ad both were approved for shareholder credit within 14 days. I figured I'm starting out at a no so why not ask.

That wrong headed policy was happening for awhile, but they now seem to have come to their senses and are approving with those type of available to everyone discounts. As another poster has already said, if you don't apply you definitely do not get it, so go ahead as you have nothing to lose by applying.
RMLincoln Posted March 17, 2022 #23 Share Posted March 17, 2022 We booked our March 20 departure in early March but I didn't get around to submitting for Stock Holder's Benefit until 3/9! Wasn't sure we'd get it before departure, but the confirmation email arrived tonight, 1 week! Yea! We have adult grandkids in second cabin who never sailed Carnival before so I split our booking to get VIFP rates for both cabins, and to get 2 $100 benefits by having me on one cabin booking #, DH on other cabin booking #. Have cards changed once onboard. Did this once before and no problem but that was before COVID. I hadn't thought my way through the split booking which could be horrible if we have some kind of an issue with a positive COVID test.... fingers crossed it all works out! We'll know Sunday!
