cruiseaway Posted May 14, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2004 We did a cruise of the Greek Islands for our honeymoon. When we arrived in the Athen's hotel and I opened my suitcase it was full of rice. Instead of throwing rice at the ceremony we blew bubbles. When I wasn't looking my friends filled my suitcase with rice. My new husband and I got quite a laugh out of all the rice. We put the rice in a plastic bag. During the cruise as we departed each port we threw a little of the rice overboard to celebrate each new day of our marriage. cruzrgrl Posted May 14, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 14, 2004 A little background first. I was 16 and DH was 19, when we married in the Spring of 1983. We had a VERY, VERY small wedding. WE were originally suppose to get married in 1985 AFTER I graduated from high school. His parents decided I wasn't good enough for their son and tried their best to break us up, they didn't succeed we just moved up our wedding 2 years and had our first child in 1985 ( two years AFTER the wedding). Anyway.............. in 2001 we decided to take our children on their first cruise as a way to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary. As a surprise to me hubby had purchased a new set of wedding rings. On the first formal night, hubby talks me into a slow dance in the main show lounge. At the end of the song, I start to walk off stage and hubby grabs me by the hand. I turn around and he is down on one knee in front of the everyoone in the lounge and asks me to marry him again for our 20th wedding anniversary. Of course, I cry and say yes, the kids laugh, and the audience applauds. This would have to be our most romantic moment on board. Aloha Cruiser Posted May 14, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 14, 2004 It was the first night of our first cruise. The inagural season of the Seven Seas Mariner. After a wonderful, romantic dinner in La Veranda, I persuaded my reluctant husband to check out the action in the Casino. I suggested that he pick the slot machine, so he picked the one with the largest "Progressive" jackpot --- $3,500. I put in the dollars and he pulled the handle, and after about 5 times, you guessed it, we WON THE $3,500 JACKPOT. What a great way to start our trip. Needless to say we visited the Casino each night of our cruise, and actually won a little something each night. We were never able to get back on our "Lucky" machine however !!! What great fun, hoping for the same great luck next week when we will be on the Mariner for our second time !!
CozmoCruiser19 Posted May 15, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 15, 2004 Here's my romantic moment on board the Radiance... This past Jan, my boyfriend and I took a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. Our second night on board was also our first formal night. We were in our cabin getting ready for dinner. We had the early seating, so the sun was just setting. My boyfriend was out on the balcony and asked me to come look at the beautiful sunset...it was amazingly beautiful! I have seen nothing like it in my life! We took pics of eachother with the sunset in the background and then, unexpectantly, he took a little box from his pocket and got down on his knee to ask me to be his wife!!! Needless to say, I cried and messed up my make-up for dinner that night, but it was the greatest way to start our cruise and share such an intimate moment together! We're getting married in 2005 and plan to take another cruise to Southern Caribbean =)
cpayne Posted May 15, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 15, 2004 Most romantic moment....March 28, 1997 6:05 pm aboard Carnival Celebration. I was on my first cruise and by myself much to the disbelief of family and friends. I boarded the ship at 5:30 due to a late flight and arrived at 6 pm for dinner. I was seated at a large table with a family of 4 and an extra empty seat. At 6:05 pm an incredibly good looking man was seated at my table in the remaining open seat. He talked to the male passenger at our table for 5 minutes while I talked to the female passenger. The male passenger then said to me...My goodness, this gentleman is traveling alone as well! The attractive man looked at me and said you are? Well, then why am I sitting clear over here?! He moved his chair to sit next to me and we have been inseparable ever since! We spent the entire seven days together. Got off the ship and extended our stay in New Orleans an extra day. Within 5 days of returning home he surprised me by showing up on my doorstep. 5 weeks later he asked me to marry him and he moved to Iowa from Texas to be with me! 6 months later we were married at 6:05 pm...the exact time we first laid eyes on each other! How's that for a story??!! Last September we returned to the Carnival Celebration for the first time since meeting. We call it the Love Boat! jhale Posted May 15, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 15, 2004 At our wedding in October, my husband and I were in the middle of our first dance, and he said jokingly "this will be the only time that we're ever the only ones on the dance floor with everyone looking at us." A little background on him, he hates to dance, lol. So on our honeymoon we were sitting in the lobby and they had the ship's band playing. All of the sudden, he pulls me into the middle of the atrium, and we dance! It was just him and I, with people looking at us from every direction, and 7 levels high. For me, that was the most romantic thing he could have done, I only wish I had a picture. jch Fantasy 1995 Ecstacy 1996 Sea Princess 1999 Celebration 2000 Celebration 2002 Conquest 2003 Honeymoon on the Rhapsody of the Seas 2003 Ecstacy 2004 Until the Ecstacy Until the Wedding our "kids" http://community.webshots.com/album/32677727SvUkJN

GROUCHPUSS Posted May 15, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 15, 2004 On Oct 3rd 2000 my life was changed forever when myself and 5 other people(mother her two sisters and my best friend) went on a cruise. my father had just died the year before and I decided that my mother need to get out more so you guessed it we went on a carnival cruise the ship we sailed on was the Destiny Chris and I are divers and were going on the cruise to get our advanced open water diving certifications. My mother and two sisters just wanted to have fun. Well allot of those plans change first night at the singles party(diving) I meet the most wonderful person that I had ever meet in my life her name was Debbie she was traveling with three other ladies. After we meet were inseparable we did everything together except dive. Even gave her a ride to the airport after the cruise so we could spend a few more minuets together. She lived in Tucson AZ lived in Clarksville IN just a mere 1900 miles apart, well after I got home and got unpacked I was on the phone buying the first of many plane tickets that would take me to Tucson. I we were reunited in just three weeks, after that it was every other week back and forth for me until new years eve when I asked her to marry me. she said yes.So I sold my business in IN and moved to Tucson with her we got married on 9-30-01 and for our honeymoon we went on a carnival cruise the ship was the Elation we were sailing a year to date when we met on the Destiny we also let a few people tag along with us you probably guessed the same 5 that was on the original cruise, everyone have a great time Chris and I even got to go diving once. No words could express how lucky and grateful I am that this wonderful person has blessed my life I love her dearly and I know that she feels the same love for me. thank you for reading Paul Celebration 87 Sea Breeze 89 Imagination 97 Destiny 10/99 Elation 9/00 Holiday 1/01 Triumph 09/01 Pride 03/02/02 Imagination 9/02 Triumph 12/02 Norweigen sun 4/03 Conquest 9/03 Destiny 9/04 My Destiny

songster67 Posted May 16, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 16, 2004 It was January of 1999 and I had just put to bed a rather ghastly time in my life. I was under considerable stress and needed a vacation in the worst way. As a fan of the NY Jets, they were one win away from a berth in Superbowl XXXIII, and I planned to go to the Superbowl if they won, but the Broncos beat them in the AFC Championship. So at the last minute, my TA found me a cabin on a sailing of the Song of America (Mexican Riviera itinerary). I had enough frequent flyer miles to go from NY to LA for free, and off I went...alone in desperate need of R&R. Leaving 20 degrees in NJ for 70 degrees in LA was good enough. Watching the Superbowl in a giant lounge onboard a cruise ship as it set sail was even better. Mid way through the game, two young women happened to enter the lounge. I was awestruck by one of them, but didn't quite have the nerve to approach. During the 7-day cruise our paths had crossed but we never exchanged a glance, let alone a word. We even wound up in the same bars in port (even sat adjacent at Senior Frog in Mazatlan). Finally, it was the last night of the cruise. Midnight. 7 hours till docking in LA. The ship was like a ghost town. I was sitting at the bar in the disco engaged in conversation with a couple I had befriended. At 12:04 the beautiful young woman I noticed the week before came into the bar. It seemed she had also met the couple I knew and lamented how her friend/roommate had come down with a severe sunburn and went to bed early and she decided to find some fun as her own vacation quickly came to a close. We were introduced and began a conversation. Often teasing each other over the fact that we had turned up in all the same places and never even once said "hi". Many laughs and a couple of dances later, the staff were asking us to leave...it was now past 3am. I asked if I could escort her back to her cabin and she agreed. Turns out, we were mere doors away. A rather passionate kiss later and she wound up joining me in my room. Yes, I'm guilty of the infamous love boat one night stand. The next morning she left at around 8am, and we found each other again at breakfast...and again on line to disembark the ship. I invited her and her roommate to share a cab with me to LAX, and there we said goodbye -- me heading home to NJ; she heading home to Wisconsin, although I did give her my business card and asked her to let me know she returned home safely. We spoke several days later. Then several days after that, and again after that and again and again. A month later we spent a long weekend together in NYC. She returned two weeks later. Two weeks after that, I joined her and her family for Easter. 12 days later, she was back in my neck of the woods as she arranged a birthday party for me and my friends at a favorite jazz/rock club in Greenwich Village. But she was the one who was going to get a gift that night. We slow danced as the house band played a cover of Prince's Purple Rain, and during an incredibly romantic and impassioned guitar solo, I stepped onto the stage knelt down leaning against the guitarist's feet, looked up at this woman I met on a cruise and without a word pulled a ring from my pocket. She dropped to her knees, squeezed me like I was a doll, and nodded. I placed the ring on her finger and we resumed our dance onstage. When the song ended, we were amazed to see that the lights had been turned on, and the whole place: fellow dancers, band members, wait staff, etc were giving us a standing ovation and cheering. A month later she packed up from her home in Wisconsin and moved in with me. A year after that we were married in front of family and friends at the Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center. Today, our whirlwind romance continues...with three children to boot. tmessenger Posted May 16, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 16, 2004 We took a back-to-back cruise on the Adventure of the Seas for our 25th anniversary. We had booked cabin 1688 for both weeks (corner aft cabin). I had told Ellen that because of the cost of the trip, she would have to wait until after we got back before I could afford to get her a gift. She was disappointed, but understood. I had already visited our jeweler and purchased a diamond/sapphire necklace that matched her earrings and ring and hid it in my camera bag (I knew she would not get into it.) I arranged for the head waiter to bring it to our table at dinner. He brought in in one of those covered dishes they use to bring the food out. We had just sat down when he placed it in front of her. Ellen asked him what it was and he said that he thought that she had ordered it. She told him that we hadn't ordered anything yet and he told her to just take a look, and if she didn't think she would like it, he would just take it back. He took the cover off the plate to reveal a jewelry box. Ellen could hardly open the box, her hands were shaking so bad. When she saw the necklace, she started crying. I didn't know it, but I had selected her favorite. We ended up having a great trip with some wonderful tablemates. (And the head waiter ended up with a pretty good tip for his help in surprising my wife).

tjohn159d Posted May 16, 2004 #20 Share Posted May 16, 2004 I posted the below in a combination of replies last March, but it should be appropriate here. I proposed on the Fantasy in 98. I had typed a letter to the CD and explained what I wanted to do. My GF was very scared in crowds and had panic attacks when I left her alone. I had to slip the letter to the CD by giving it to one of his assistants, as the GF would not let me get more than 20 feet from her. The CD made arraingements to do it on stage after the talent show. He sent a message to me through the head waiter to be sure and be at the talent show when it ended. After the show, he said he had an extra freebee from the port we had just been in and drew a ticket out of the bucket. It was mine and after I was on stage he asked who I was with. We eventually got her on stage and then he appologised and said he didn't really have a prize and asked me what I would do in a situation like that. I pulled the ring out of my pocket and he handed me the mike and I got on one knee and proposed. The only thing that may have made it better would have been if I could have spent more than 5 minutes with the CD prior, so I could have given him the ring and let him give it to me as the prize, before asking. I could not get time with the CD because she wouldn't let me out of her site, not because he wasn't available. What makes it even better is that we were married from 07/1970 to 02/1976 before and did it again after we were apart for 17 years. Have been married this time for 5 1/2 years again now. We didn't even see or talk to each other during the entire time. I was in the army and gone all the time so she got tired of being alone and we parted friends. She got remarried to a very possessive guy and he made threats to me that if I didnt sign adoption papers for our boys, he would hurt them. I signed and then when she finally got a divorce from him she told my parents she wanted me to meet my boys again. I went to my parents house for my dad's BD and my mom called her over. When she came in the door it was just like it was the first time we met, couldnt take our eyes off each other. It just went on from there and here we are still going today, with a long future in sight. I was real sure she was going to say yes when I got her on stage, but I did ask again later since she was so scared of all those people looking at her. imsulin Posted May 16, 2004 #21 Share Posted May 16, 2004 Back in about 1999, I was cruising solo on the Norway. I had spent the day at Orient Beach in St. Martin, and was dragging my sorry self back onto the ship with really bad sea water drippy hair, an equally bad one-piece purple suit from Wal-Mart (what was I thinking?), and a pair of 50-cent flip flops. I got whistled at. Does that count?

CruiseFever Posted May 17, 2004 #23 Share Posted May 17, 2004 Our most romantic moment happened quite by surprise and it was actually right before a cruise. Last year in March we were booked on the Carnival Legend for a Spring Break cruise with the kids. While the ship sailed out of Fort Lauderdale we chose to spend a few days pre-cruise in Miami just because we love that city and are especially fond of South Beach. We've talked about moving there in a few years when the kids are gone off into their own worlds. That dream will be fulfilled some day. In fact, the topic came up then, but in a conversation I had with my wife Lisa that I’d imagine will be vivid in my memory for the rest of my life. Some conversations are like that. So crystal clear in your memory that they could have taken place just moments ago, but yet they happened in previous decades. Just days prior to this vacation Lisa had been diagnosed with cancer and would be facing surgery and treatment when we returned from the cruise. The doctors told us to go on this cruise and that the few extra days would not really make any difference in her treatment. We were spending the morning on South Beach, had inquired about where a restroom was earlier and were told the closest one to our position was at the Beach Patrol Headquarters building. Lisa and I walked down there and back. In one of the rare moments when we are without the kids, Lisa stopped and told me something I will never forget. “If the worst happens, if they’ve done everything they can and theres nothing else that can be done for me, I want to be here†She was referring to the upcoming chapter in our lives which would include the treatment and resolution of the cancer that was found just one week ago back home during an oral surgery. With all the sights, sounds and other distractions this vacation had afforded us so far it was not too hard to put this issue on the back burner, as planned. But it was still there, looming under the surface of everything we did and everyplace we went. We had the thoughts at bay for now and intended to do so for the rest of this trip but this was the right time and the right place for this short but poignant conversation. I understood. We went on to agree that this was a good place to have the end come. We have never been happier than here. And in her typical selfless demeanor she added “..and it will be a good place for you to get a new start†Those words struck at my heart so hard that I rose to a different level of consciousness that I had only flirted with before. The thought had indeed crossed my mind but I denied it away as quick as I could. Now here it was right in front of me, not in the shades of gray that occupy my mind but in living, breathing, color. At that moment Lisa took on an air of beauty I had seen just a couple times before. It was the glow of a bride or the wonder of the new mother. To be facing what could be the most difficult time of her life but be concerned about what might happen to me was the stuff that great people are made of. Even though the discovering doctor thought this was something that could be “taken care ofâ€, even though she didn’t fit the profile for people who should get this disease, the possibility was there that it could have devastating results. A few moments later, that conversation done and back to semi-reality we wondered if that was what it took for us to move here, why wait? As I mentioned we had talked about and planned on moving here after the kids were off conquering their own worlds but those talks were, in reality, dreams. Now they had some legitimate foundation. But what was said was said and it was time to put the whole thing on the back burner again. Somehow talking about this had added a peace and calm to the day that resulted in a nap on the beach, a truly romantic moment and really set the stage for a memorable cruise. There have been a bunch of other romantic moments but they were mostly fabricated to BE romantic moments. Those were great too but this one is at the top of my list.
