Lane Hog Posted March 30, 2022 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2022 Houston's loss was Galveston's gain... I wonder how much time was being lost in the channel getting to Bayport vs. the relatively fast in and out at Galveston.
BallFour4 Posted March 31, 2022 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2022 This was a good read. The terminal is actually in the City of Pasadena, and they were stuck with a million dollar water enhancement in the form of a on-site tower to provide adequate pressure to serve the needs. This "build it and they will come" mentality was a dismal failure, and reflected on some shady dealings and contracts with friends of the port authority. Galveston has bounced back after Ike, took on the Conquest after Katrina and has added hotel rooms at an aggressive pace. Mix in a real business plan for the long term with two amazing summers of island revenues with "staycation" travelers spending money down here like crazy and the long-term success is close to a sure thing. Thanks for sharing! .
CarolSW Posted April 4, 2022 #4 Share Posted April 4, 2022 (edited) THANK YOU for this story @HostKat! I have been grieving the failure of the Bayport cruise terminal for years. We were able to use it just once, and I thought it was great. This report has me feeling much better about it now. Galveston is our homeport, and we were on the island just this weekend to be spectators for the ‘22 Ironman 70.3. We drove down Harborside to see the considerable progress on the new Royal Caribbean terminal. Exciting! I consider myself so fortunate to be so close to a cruise port! ssb Posted April 12, 2022 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2022 The Island of Galveston has it going on for cruising ! Five cruise lines sailing out of Galveston ! Three of largest ships in industry sailing out of Galveston . New state of the art third cruise terminal , only few months from completion ! Fourth terminal is on drawing boards. So many other infrastructure cruise support improvements happening on island.

Shame it didn't work out as it was a nice terminal with easy parking.
