slimbyspring Posted April 27, 2022 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2022 Curious about single occupancy - we are about to book a cruise for a group of 5 (3 inside cabins). If for some reason we increase our party to 6, can we do that? And does Carnival update the price to double occupancy? The difference between the two prices is so little the my son may take someone, but who knows who at this point!
Elaine5715 Posted April 27, 2022 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2022 There is no Single occupancy rate, A solo in the cabin pays for two cruise fares (just for one on other fees). Adding someone later can be tricky if lifeboat capacity is reached in that Muster station.

A solo only pays once for that. So if someone else came your son's fare should be divided in half since the other person will be paying their share.
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted April 27, 2022 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2022 Occasionally I've seen some good solo rates. On our 5/20 Liberty cruise I went in to book a few cabins for my staff (I cover inside cabins, double occupancy - and it came to $219pp). One was going to go solo so I checked the rate and it was.. SHOCK... $219. Thus, I was able to get 2 of them their own cabins - at no extra cost to them. When I tried for the third one, that offer was no longer popping up, for whatever reason (capacity controlled no doubt). It was listed as a Florida Resident special rate. It turned out OK for the third person since she qualified for a casino rate and will now have $500 OBC ! Tom

Me too - back when they were first starting cruises again (and just trying to get cabins filled) I had friends/relatives who got great reduced solo rates. I haven't seen any recently though.
firefly333 Posted April 27, 2022 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2022 Book a 2nd pax as tba, so it's not refared to add someone.

Sometimes you may find a true solo fare, such as on an upper/lower interior or porthole but, usually he will have to pay the single supplement. If his cabin is the same cost as the other two, before port fees /taxes, he should just book the cabin for 2 pax and leave the second guest TBA, like Firefly said. He can enter their info later on and if nobody else goes, the port fees/taxes for the second guest will be refunded. This way he has the option to add the second person later since he already has to pay for 2 anyway and he won't be out any money if nobody else goes.
