unclegrandpa Posted May 22, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2022 What happened to the NCL cruises to Japan on the Sun that used to be scheduled for October and November 2022? I have been looking at those waiting for them to get cheaper. I just looked again and they are all gone. Did they get cancelled due to Covid or did they get sold out? I can't imagine them all selling out within just a couple days. But I am not seeing anything for Norwegian Sun for those months now or any NCL cruises to Asia for 2022
casofilia Posted May 22, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2022 Then only Japan cruise on the website is the Jewel in April 2024. (Japan to Seward) However the Jewel does not have any cruises before that posted yet. I would imagine that Japan cruises will be determined by the availability of ships that are going to be in Australia/New Zealand southern summers in 2022/23 and 2023/24. At present the Spirit is scheduled there and it has been from there to Japan previously.
chickkypoo Posted May 22, 2022 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2022 Yesterday all of the Asian cruises for late 2022/early 2023 were showing as sold out if you tried to actually book them. Today they were all pulled from the site. I suspect they are cancelling their Asian itinerary much like Celebrity and Holland America did. I'm booked on the Dec 22nd cruise from Singapore to Hong Kong. They haven't notified me yet that it's cancelled.

bsnyc Posted May 22, 2022 #6 Share Posted May 22, 2022 I was on hold with NCL yesterday for 1 hour 40 minutes. They only know when NCL issues a statement and that is all they are able to search for. Most of us on these boards know much more about NCL then most of their agents. Since every single cruise that features Japan has disappeared I think it is a good bet that NCL has cancelled all Japan cruises. I even tried to search through 3rd party web sights and they weren't there either. Now to plan B. Anyone have any ideas for other cruises this November/December? Rare BigRedFan Posted May 22, 2022 #7 Share Posted May 22, 2022 I have been booked on the Dawn's April 13, 2023 Japan sailing & the April 25th, 2023 Transpacific. They still show on my site but they are gone from a general search and The Dawn now is showing in the Caribbean during those dates! I have not been notified that they have cancelled but I am expecting it. Not happy as this will be the 3rd reschedule due to cancellation. Rare www3traveler Posted May 22, 2022 #9 Share Posted May 22, 2022 in the last week or so, I have seen postings quoting both Mr. Del Rio and Mr. Sommer as saying both The Sun and The Spirit were going to experience re-deployments. Have not seen anything yet as to when or what the new itineraries would be.

I don’t think Japan has reopened for cruise ships. Anyone please correct me if I’m wrong.
SandraDJ Posted May 22, 2022 #11 Share Posted May 22, 2022 I have a cruise booked out of Tokyo in March 2023. It is still showing in my account but not on the website. I hope they make cancellations public soon, as I have seen a different trip that I would like to do, but with a different cruise line.

Ateam2000 Posted May 22, 2022 #13 Share Posted May 22, 2022 Come on NCL, just cancel the Japan cruises so we can move on. I just got off the phone and received the answer I expected, “We don’t know”. I’m booked back to back on the Sun then flying TYO-TLV to join the Epic to Rome then to the Island Princess to FLL. There are currently NO cruises to Japan offered by any line the remainder of the year. I suspect NCL will wait until late summer then I’ll be scrambling to figure out how to get to TLV. Ateam2000 Posted May 23, 2022 #15 Share Posted May 23, 2022 It's official, I received my cancellation emails minutes ago. The Sun Aisa trips are canceled, and the ship is moving to Europe and doing roundtrips to the Canary Islands. At least they were much faster in notification than they have been in the past. Rare Rob_H Posted May 23, 2022 #17 Share Posted May 23, 2022 Not unexpected as many cruise lines have been cancelling their Asis seasons in recent weeks. Still disappointing, as we had booked a nine cruise 105 day back to back, v from HK on 26 Jan 2023 right through to Vancouver. Good the notice was so far ahead so we can make other plans! These and the Panama Canal x2, both way Transatlantic crossings. Those itineraries are fantastic .... and I hope NCL will repeat that for winter 2023-24 so we can go! We're going on one cruise next month (Iceland & Greenland) and already have an UK trip booked in Oct and have already booked B2B Alaskan next year May. The ship Sun might not be a big ship but the new itineraries are bloody good! Note: the two Transatlantic crossings are not of the usual kinds - the eastbound one is in Nov (when other ships do the westbound) and the westbound is in April (when other ships do the other way).
julig22 Posted June 7, 2022 #21 Share Posted June 7, 2022 Jewel from Tokyo in April 2024 just came back online, no obvious changes to itinerary. Now they just need to fill in how it gets from San Diego in December to Tokyo in April!
