Do you know any adult that got an unvaccinated exemption?

Carnival Cruise Line

Unvaccinated kids under five are permitted to sail without needing to apply for an exemption from Carnival.

Celebrity Cruises

For voyages based in the U.S., as well as cruises to Canada and Bermuda, passengers 12 and older must be vaccinated, while kids 11 and under are not required to have the vaccine to sail.

MSC Cruises

Through April 22, all kids 12 and older must be fully vaccinated to sail. Starting April 23, all kids 5 and older must be fully vaccinated. Unvaccinated kids under these ages are allowed to sail.

So Carnival and MSC it's 5 and up required to be vaccinated, Celebrity is a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Group so that makes sense. My kids are 6, 8, 11 so that's that for Carnival and MSC.

Carnival is under 12 can be unvaccinated but they have to apply for the exemption.

Vaccine exemptions for cruises to the Caribbean will be limited to a very small number of children ages 5-11, and teens and adults with a medical condition preventing their vaccination.

Same with NCL. Same with everyone actually. Anyone who wishes to sail unvaccinated is required to ask for an exemption unless they are under 5 (for the moment).

The religious exemption is not solely based on a religious group's doctrine. You can still have a strong religious belief that God is telling you not to get the vaccine. Doesn't apply to me, but can still be used as a viable religious exemption.

You can but I think the cruise line will say no.

The process seems quite cumbersome and  would be better if you could know of a denial more quickly than just shortly before sale date.

I do take exception to a few of your comments.  You mentioned you were diamond and sailed in a suite.   Your Crown and Anchor status with Royal Caribbean or your cabin accommodations should have no bearing on a  medical exemption decision.  It would be sad if these two areas swayed a decision in any way. That would give an unfair advantage to many passengers.

Best wishes to your family and I hope that you will be able to eventually take your vacation.

It's always been in the back of my mind that, if there were slots available in the 10% unvaccinated population, after children were accepted,

Would cruise lines pick the persons

1. First come, first served

or

2. What cabin a person had chosen (suite vs inside) for example

I know this topic can get derailed quickly. First of all, my wife and I are vaccinated. However, my uncle (brother of my late father-in-law) in his 70s is not. He did have Covid a year ago, but hasn't gotten the shot due to religious reasons (he's a strict catholic). He would love to come cruising with us.

I am aware of the RC website with the rules, but I can't see there's a lot of information there:

Religious Requests: For religious accommodation, please describe the nature of your sincerely held religious beliefs, religious practice or observance that conflicts with the vaccination requirement.

Question: has anyone successfully applied for this, and if so: can you share what kind of documentation you provided?

I’m pretty sure on adventure May Bermuda cruise quite a few onboard were unvaccinated! Because prior to returning to USA after 9 nights there was a notice of covid19 testing to return to home. For certain individuals!

Separate issue was 150 onboard quarantine for covid19! Wife got covid19 and then me. Fully vaccinated and double boosted too! Towards the end of the cruise lots of folks wearing mask.

Paxlovid medicine worked for wife but not for me! Long hauler covid19 here, it’s real!
Cardiologist tested just today!

Inhaler and lung specialist next.
We all got to live but covid19 is no joke trust me!
But I did enjoy the cruise and wonderful fellow passengers. Felt great going! 2,400 passengers instead of 3,400! Staff was outstanding.

You can not be on a Bermuda cruise unvaccinated unless under 12 years old. No exceptions. No exemptions!

If that is the case then all 150 quarantined were vaccinated and tested?  So wny exactly are we required to jump through all these hoops if that is the case?  My son can not be vaccinated and we can not cruise because of it.   We would be cruising this summer if it were not for the vaccine.  He has had covid and is not at risk of getting it again.  If he does have a risk it is the same as every other vaccinated person so I really feel that the cruise lines need to accept recovery as a waiver.  My friend had it in Jan 2020 and gives blood.  He still has the antibodies according to the blood bank.

Even IF there was that many Quarantined during Cruise doesn't mean they all had CV. My Daughter and Grand both had Sinus infection's last Month. Quarantined for 24hrs with Neg CV Tests and we enjoyed rest of our Cruise

We can't have a discussion on that per Cruise Critic rules but I am only stating the Bermuda requirements. None would have been allowed to board 12 or over if unvaccinated. Our opinion does not matter to Bermuda. Also Bermuda also does not accept a certificate of recovery period. Does not matter what the cruise lines accept. Their  country their rules.

677 unvaccinated on a fully loaded Oasis Class ship seems like a lot.

5,602 GUESTS (double occupancy)}
6,771. GUESTS (total)

2,109 INTERNATIONAL CREW

677 unvaccinated is not a lot since some ships are sailing with 800 +/- kids.

Anthem Easter sailing had over 800 kids with less than 4200 total passengers.   Some of them were vaxxed but not all.

Sorry to hear you are still dealing with lingering covid.

As for those tested onboard at end of the cruise, that would have been unvaccinated children under 12.

No one needed a Covid test to return to the US by cruise. It was not required.  There may have been passengers flying home to countries that required a test or taking a back to back cruise.

All children under 12 that are unvaccinated are required to take a covid test onboard the last full day of the cruise.   This is typically done between 8 and 10 am.

This is not a requirement set by the US.   This test has been in place since last summer.

B2b cruisers no longer need test as of May 1st.

And January 2022 royal stopped providing onboard tests for those that needed to fly home.

So the announcements you heard or read in cruise compass were for kids to get tested.

If the second cruise of the back to back was to Bermuda like the first they would have needed a test. I didn’t know about the unvaccinated children but that would explain it.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some countries require their citizens to be tested before going back home!!!!!!!  That could’ve been what the notices were about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is simply not true.

Bermuda requires a travel authorization for all cruise ship passengers over two years of age.  Unvaccinated cruise ship passengers 12 years and older may go on a Bermuda cruise with an approved travel authorization which contains an approved medical exemption.  Unvaccinated cruise ship passengers 12 years and over must remain on the ship while in Bermuda ports.

What difference does it make to you as a vaccinated person if there are unvaccinated children on-board, many of whom have antibodies already most likely? Just curious.

OK, for anyone interested in how the process works… We submitted for a vaccine exemption last April. Our cruise leaves Aug 29. We just got an email saying they would let us know two weeks before the cruise leaves if we will be accepted or not. Doesn’t leave much time to change vacation plans.

Does anyone have an literature regarding this 10% rule? I have looked all over Royal's site and can't find anything.

I ask because I am traveling with extended family the beginning of October.  This includes my 10 year old niece who they won't vaccinate for no real reason other than they don't want too.  I'm not starting a debate over vaccines, just stating that is their reasoning (really).  I do not want my own vacation cancelled over this and there is still time to vaccinate.  They said they will if she can't cruise without being vaccinated.  So I'd love something that I can pass on to the about this 10% rule.

Thanks!

The 10% rule is not from RCI, but from the CDC who changed the definition of Highly Vaccinated (from 5% previously) under which all RCI ships out of US ports sail.
