tx121 Posted June 28, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Hello, We will be boarding our first River cruise on Viking this Sunday. I have read that Viking usually mails out the red luggage tags to put on the luggage but we have not received them yet. We booked the cruise 2 weeks ago. Is it necessary to have them? Rare pontac Posted June 28, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2022 Short answer - NO They are one of the very few 'freebies' that Viking used to hand out. They're handsomely made of leather and will last for ever. If your travel is organised by Viking you'll be met at the airport by Viking staff. They are unmissable in all red costumes, blazoned with the Viking name & logo and red clip boards. Make yourself known to them so they can cross you off their list. A soon as all the passengers they are expecting have arrived they'll lead you to the coach/taxi that will take you to your boat. Your bags will be taken from the coach to your room. So the red baggage tags are not necessary. But you should also have some paper tags with your name and cabin number on them which are used to direct your bags to the correct cabin. If you haven't got those, no worries, your name on the airline tag should tell the staff where your bags should go. It may take 5 minutes longer as the crew check with reception which cabin you have. Another thing they send out is a self adhesive red Viking logo on a circle they ask you to affix to your shirt so their staff can recognise you at the arrival airport. We have never worn them, as I said, their airport staff are unmistakable. You'll see them after you collect baggage and exit international arrival. Relax, you're going to have a wonderful time. 1

sharkster77 Posted June 28, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 28, 2022 We recently took a land tour in Canada, and a few passengers had the red leather Viking tags on their backpacks--made for a nice conversation starter, sharing common experiences!! The Viking staff at the airport will put on paper tags with your room number if you don’t have any.
