The USCG would have no jurisdiction over a fight on the ship, unless a US citizen called them or local LEO to swear out a claim, and even then, nothing would be done without the Captain's approval for LEO to board and make arrests, except to investigate the incident afterwards. Someone asked about flying into foreign ports for cruises and a lot of folks weren't interested. This is precisely why. No thanks, I'm only looking to cruise from a US port and back to a US port. Imagine the jurisdictional hurdles from other countries and all the delays, not to mention, many have weak protection policies for even their own citizens. Plus, the angels in the sky are usually within range (God bless the US Coast Guard!) if the worst case happens and the gun boat escorts make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. 😁🇺🇸

Supposedly it was the Carnival Magic forced to dock because of a massive fight onboard. https://pix11.com/news/local-news/manhattan/cruise-ship-makes-emergency-stop-off-of-manhattan-due-to-brawl/ I just got off the Magic today! As a couple other people said, the headline was a little deceptive. Today was our scheduled debarkation date and we were at the regular pier where we were supposed to be (88). Also, early last evening the captain had announced an estimated arrival time of 6:00 am in New York so I’m not sure that we even docked earlier than expected. Truthfully I didn’t even know anything had happened until we got off the ship and I saw it on social media. I did notice a lot of coast guard people on board as we walked through the lobby, but that was it. 3
crooooze Posted June 29, 2022 #28 Share Posted June 29, 2022 We were on this cruise also. I noticed an awful amount of weed smoking smell around this ship and on outside decks. Even in areas with many kids. That was a bit annoying.

We called it the "rainbow coalition of trash" cruise. I've taken Carnival and NCL out of Manhattan, it's definitely a less genteel crowd than you get when you sail out of Florida. Sailed Carnival out of Long Beach, nothing like that, even on the party weekend cruises. But I have come to expect the stereotype from Manhattan.

"Gruff" is one thing, but some of what I observed went way past gruff and way past the typical new York attitude. On our 2 cruises out of New York, we encountered the most insanely rude, entitled people. It was ridiculous. Rude people are everywhere, but WOW! 2
Muffin Slayer Posted June 29, 2022 #37 Share Posted June 29, 2022 We were plan to tour NYC in some time and maybe take a cruise from there, but now I read this and maybe not. Is it just this brand that has this trouble or not? Does this coast guard always get there when requested quickly? The Carnival Magic cruise ship requested assistance from the Coast Guard after 40 to 60 passengers were involved in a brawl on the dance floor of the ship’s nightclub at around 5:20 a.m. ET on Tuesday. A Coast Guard boat was dispatched to escort the cruise ship to its home dock in Manhattan, where members of the NYPD were on hand as the ship docked, according to WNBC.

So, being that Carnival has names, pictures, and all personal information, for everyone on the ship, it's just a matter of going through and looking for these people, which I am sure is already in the process of being done. This type of behavior is unacceptable and uncalled-for no matter what the circumstances are. There is zero excuse and zero tolerance for this. There should be a permanent ban handed down for the individuals who took part in this. In a world where cameras are everywhere, people gotta be a lot smarter with their actions.
