Beth and Bailey Posted July 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2022 We're booked on a RCI cruise for 10/23. I have friends that wanted to join us (we booked months ago) but I've not been able to find it. Called RCI and gotten NO ANSWER.... other than some 'updating' and to check the website again in a few days. Seems several folks can't find sailings for this ship. So if they wind up canceling ....... which would be such a bummer since this itinerary was so perfect...... must they provide my choice at the same price. (there are similar cruises to the Med/Greece, but not all the ports we wanted)
Babr Posted July 20, 2022 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2022 No, but they do have to refund in cash any money you paid, not FCC.
Sunshine3601 Posted July 20, 2022 #3 Share Posted July 20, 2022 They may move your booking to another ship with price protection, offer you a FCC or refund. The days of Lift and shift to a sailing of your choice ended sometime last year and doubt that would be an option, if your sailing is cancelled. Jingerwoppy Posted July 21, 2022 #6 Share Posted July 21, 2022 They hold your money as long as they think they can get away with it and eventually pay you after continuous responses that it will appear on your credit card in 7 days.
HibiscusHoney Posted July 21, 2022 #7 Share Posted July 21, 2022 I had a Feb 2022 cruise cancelled and could either choose to get a full refund (which was credited quickly) or a FCC for the price I paid plus 25%.

Surfguyxxx Posted July 21, 2022 #9 Share Posted July 21, 2022 We had the same thing happen to us on the 09/10/2023 Serenade OTS out of Copenhagen. We could transfer to another cruise, or get a full refund. We transferred to a "similar" cruise.
robmtx Posted July 21, 2022 #10 Share Posted July 21, 2022 Here is a sample letter you might receive, should Royal cancel a cruise you're booked on: We're reaching out to let you know that, regrettably, we have to cancel our February 4th, 2023 Harmony of the Seas sailing, as it has been chartered. We know how much time and effort go into planning your cruise, and we are sorry for the inconvenience. Every aspect of your time with us should be enjoyable, so we've put together some alternate options that we hope will work for you. Option 1: Re-book one of the following 2023 itineraries: 7-Night Eastern Caribbean & Perfect Day cruise onboard Symphony of the Seas sailing to Philipsburg, St. Maarten | Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas | and Perfect Day at CocoCay on January 7th, January 14th, January 28th, or February 4th 7-Night Western Caribbean & Perfect Day cruise onboard Symphony of the Seas sailing to Costa Maya, Mexico | Roatan, Honduras | Cozumel, Mexico | and Perfect Day at CocoCay on January 21st or February 11th 8-Night Southern Caribbean cruise onboard Harmony of the Seassailing to Labadee, Haiti | Oranjestad, Aruba | and Willemstad, Curacao on January 7th or February 18th 8-Night Eastern Caribbean cruise onboard Harmony of the Seassailing to Labadee, Haiti | San Juan, Puerto Rico | Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas | Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic | and Nassau, Bahamas on January 21st What you’ll receive: Your original stateroom category price will either be protected at your original cruise fare rate or reduced to the current cruise fare rate (whichever is lower). This excludes taxes, fees, gratuities, and other non-cruise fare items. If your booking was already paid in full and your cruise fare rate decreases, we'll provide you with a refund for the difference. You can expect to receive your refund to your original form of payment 30 days after we move you. Kindly note, refund times may vary depending on your financial institution. To sweeten the offer, you’ll receive a credit to spend onboard per stateroom: $100 USD for Interior, Ocean View, and Balcony staterooms | $200 USD for Suites Plus, an additional $50 USD for each third or more guest to spend onboard. And, you’ll also be reimbursed for non-refundable, pre-purchased transportation change fees incurred (such as a flight, train ticket, or rental car). We'll cover up to $200 USD per guest for Domestic changes, or up to $400 USD per guest for International changes. Option 2: Re-book any other Royal Caribbean International sailing If you prefer to re-book another sailing not included in Option 1, we'll waive any non-refundable deposit change fees. Please know, you’ll be responsible for any difference in pricing for your cruise fare, taxes, fees, gratuities, and other non-cruise fare items. If your booking was already paid in full and your cruise fare rate decreases, we'll provide you with a refund for the difference. You can expect to receive your refund to your original form of payment within 30 business days after we move you. Kindly note, refund times may vary depending on your financial institution. And, you’ll also be reimbursed for non-refundable, pre-purchased transportation change fees incurred (such as a flight, train ticket, or rental car). We'll cover up to $200 USD per guest for Domestic changes, or up to $400 USD per guest for International changes. Option 3: If you can't find a new itinerary that works for you and choose to cancel, we'll be sad to see you go. You’ll receive: A full refund of any paid portion of your cruise fare (including non-refundable deposits) and any pre-paid amenities to the original form of payment, within 30 business days. If you used a Future Cruise Credit on this sailing, and you request a refund instead, we'll refund any NEW funds paid above the certificate amount, and we'll reinstate your original certificate. If you booked air fare on your own, please contact the service provider directly for their options with them. Please note, if you choose this option, we will not provide additional compensation. It's important to us that you find the best cruise option. Please contact us by May 5th, 2022 to let us know your decision. If you decide to go with option 3, there's no need to contact us. If we haven't heard from you by May 5th, 2022, your reservation will be cancelled.

They don't regret cancelling a cruise one bit when it's been chartered.

Our policy was extended until Dec. 31, 2023, which is actually more than a year out from our cancelled cruise. It may depend on the company, but as you say, it is not unusual to transfer the policy to another cruise as long as you have not filed a claim against it.
