Rare John Bull Posted July 29, 2022 #3 Share Posted July 29, 2022 Southampton (note the spelling) is about 80 miles from central London, and the best advice depends on your location in central London (or airport-land?), and the numbers in your party. And mebbe the date / day-of-the-week. JB 🙂
NoBoozeCruise Posted September 15, 2023 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2023 FYI Southampton is nowhere near London. Not a fast connection
Ashland Posted September 15, 2023 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2023 Try Blackberry car service...great experience with them.
Blue and Green Posted September 18, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 18, 2023 Wondering the same--our previous two (pre-pandemic) trips we used Smiths car service and were very happy with them. Evidently they are no longer in business. Wondering about West Quay cars or Mason and Green? Or what other car services might be similar to Smiths? Rare mskaufman Posted September 19, 2023 #7 Share Posted September 19, 2023 We used Majestic Taxi for 4 of us and even included a stop at Windsor.
Rare KKB Posted October 12, 2023 #8 Share Posted October 12, 2023 We booked British Express Cars for 4 of us. We got a van to be sure there was comfortable room for all 4 plus our luggage. About $300 total from hotel (near London Eye) to Southampton.
cruisefamilyholiday Posted October 13, 2023 #9 Share Posted October 13, 2023 Express Airport Transport. Standard taxi for less than £150 Luxury or People Carrier for less than £200 including central London Or a train via the Trainline website The road traffic can be insane at the wrong times. Be warned.
Esjung1 Posted October 13, 2023 #10 Share Posted October 13, 2023 (edited) Waterloo train was awesome, about $16pp and it took 1 hr 15 minutes to Southampton. The train drops you about 1.5 miles from the cruise dock, we took a taxi as it was too far to walk with luggage. That cost an additional $10 for all 4 of us. We stayed in London 2 nights prior to getting on the Regal and our hotel was literally right outside the Waterloo train station so this was super convenient. We also took the Elizabeth line/Northern Line from Heathrow into London and had no issues, much cheaper than an uber. Rooms are small but totally fine for 2 people. We had 3 adults and 1 child so we booked two rooms with twin beds.

Impressive that you took the time to research your trip in such details. Kudos.

This is because cruise lines routinely lie about this, and as a consequence some cruisers who have not consulted a map think that it only needs a £10 shuttle from their hotel to the dock. Yes, there's a lot more choice if flying to London rather than Southampton. But you have to know that you still have to do a transfer that's of the same sort of order as going from New York City to Philadelphia.
