Pictures taken between Monday, August 1 and Sunday, August 7.

It is a new month! How about posting some new photos?

Rules: See above

That's it. This isn't a contest.

All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising).

Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize.

The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays.

Post one. Post many. Up to you.

Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

Spent an enjoyable few hours at Taronga Zoo here in Sydney.

Walked into the Tasmanian Devil enclosure just in the nick of time to watch this little guy munching  away. A minute later he had disappeared to the rear and out of sight.

I am a fan of DIY. DIY has saved me untold thousands of dollars and I truly enjoy working on the projects. Part of our DIY path is a facelift on the front of our 70-year-old home. For years we have put off a major part of the facelift that involved removing the 60’ Italian Cypress trees that predated our ownership and were planted too close to the house. They were causing damage to the eaves when the big winds made their annual visits, so it was time for them to go. Acrophobia and not owning a large truck and chipper to deal with the literal tons of trimmings led us to pay for removal. DIY is great but hiring pros that do a great job at a reasonable price has its own type of satisfaction.

DIY Has Limits

Only got in a shortened day at the wetlands Saturday - rain in the morning, hot and humid afternoon, and threat of more storms late in the afternoon drove me back out.  Here are a few shots from the brief visit:

Green heron looking up at me:

Tricolored heron, very close up:

Great blue heron, very close up:

A cooter turtle, perched on his shell with feet dangling - he looked like an of-road vehicle that got high-sided...but they like to do that to rest their legs - and when he wants to get off, he just tips his balance point forward and drops down into the water:

Grey headed swamphen using those big chicken feet to grab at reeds - they pull the reeds out of the water and only eat the root side:

Crystal, a 9-foot female alligator, sitting in the shade, still watching over her nest...it will take around 60-65 days for the eggs to hatch - she's in that window now, so hoping the eggs hatch::
