I have stayed at Bestwestern last September. It was just fine with us, would stay there again in a heartbeat. Heated pool, nice breakfast, cold air conditioner, quiet. Never at the Commodore, but usually always has good reviews. I would give them a try in a heartbeat also. Hope this helps. :)

I stay at the Marriott at IAH because I can take the airport tram to the hotel and back to the airport the next day (because of transfers). It is very convenient and a nice hotel.

We've stayed at the Commodore. It's an older hotel, but clean. It's right across street from the beach. There are many restaurants nearby. For a one night pre-cruise it was fine.

If you're driving you can leave your car in their lot (unsecured, but monitored in the lobby). The last time we were there they didn't offer the shuttle to the pier, but called us a cab when we were ready to go. I believe it was $8.00 (per cab) to the pier.

We won't be staying there again as it's gone non-smoking.
