sunchaser49 Posted September 25, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2022 (edited) Just booked our first Mexican Riviera cruise… very excited! 5 days out of San Diego, Dec. 17-22 with stops in Ensenada and Cabo, on the Koningsdam. I realize we can’t predict the weather but can anyone tell me if we may experience “rougher” seas at any point? Florida_gal_50 Posted September 25, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2022 I find it's usually rough the last night. I've done the 7 day cruise a ton of times. 3
canadianbear Posted September 25, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2022 We’ve done the 7 and the longer one (includes La Paz) lots of times as it is one of our easier getaway cruises. It can be bumpy but I love the movement from the ocean. Like Florida_gal_50 said, usually can be the last night.
Rare TiogaCruiser Posted September 25, 2022 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2022 As @Florida_gal_50 said, going north up the BCdS and California coasts. we had a lovely, bumpy ride across the Sea of Cortes one night. I don’t suspect on such a short cruise as you are doing that you will be crossing that Sea.
Heartgrove Posted September 26, 2022 #5 Share Posted September 26, 2022 We have done the 7-day cruise from San Diego on both the Westerdam and Koningsdam at approximately the same dates in December as that is our anniversary. Both times the seas were calm.
kangforpres Posted September 26, 2022 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2022 Seas are usually calm unless you are going in November and there is any weather from a nearby Eastern Pacific (East PAC) tropical system. You can check this on the National Hurricane Center's webpage, click on the Eastern Pacific tab. -Paul
opa&oma Posted September 26, 2022 #7 Share Posted September 26, 2022 Going north on the Pacific coast you are going against the current and it is rougher than going south. So yes, you usually feel it. You might want to take something in advance for your return.

My husband, a sea captain, calls it an uphill run. 4

For sure...I used to sail from SD to Newport Beach and it was "uphill" all the way..and a lot of "tacking"!!! 😞

Very smooth on the way down. That said, it wasn't unpleasant in any way, just a bit more movement.
Rare Hlitner Posted September 27, 2022 #11 Share Posted September 27, 2022 The basic rule applies, "Seas are calm until they are not! Hank
