hobgoblin Posted September 28, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2022 I have only ever travelled on a Celebrity cruise and am considering a trip to the fjords in March /April time and wondered if anyone had been at this time of year? What was the weather like in March or April ? Also, are the places worth going in early spring ?are tourist sights and stores open ? I have read that often the ship cant get in to the fjord due to bad weather and then you only have maybe 3 stops on a weeks cruise ? Has anyone traveled on Anthem of the seas or p&O to Fjords ,any advice for choosing this destination ?
Treasure Hunter Posted September 28, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2022 We took Princess in May to Norway from Southhamption and it was cold. I wouldn’t got earlier. If you are cruise that time of year go to the Med. Sicily is breathtaking and flowers everywhere.
Rare cruisestitch Posted September 28, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2022 (edited) Which fjords? New Zealand? Norway? Chile? Iceland? I don’t think any of the North American Fiore’s are crucible in March or April, but you can certainly do the New Zealand fjords at that time of year. Northern Aurora Posted September 28, 2022 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2022 And to slightly expand on “cruise stitch” reply, we have also done Chilean Fjords in March. It was lovely.

Since you're on the Celebrity board, do you realize they don't sail to Norway until May? Your best bet would be to first check each cruise line's scheduled sailings. Rare cruisestitch Posted September 28, 2022 #6 Share Posted September 28, 2022 Sorry for horrible typos. Northern hemisphere fjords are not cruisable in March
Rare Essiesmom Posted September 29, 2022 #7 Share Posted September 29, 2022 Weather? Probably not much colder than your Scots weather. If you want to sail that time of year, look at Viking Ocean, AIDA, Mein Schaffer, Fred Olsen, Saga, Ambassador. Refer to cruisetimetables.com. hobgoblin Posted September 29, 2022 Author #8 Share Posted September 29, 2022 Thanks everyone , I was thinking Norwegian fjords and possibly taking alternative cruise line . Thought someone who is also a regular Celebrity cruiser might have tried alternative company and could comment on pros/cons .
wineoclock Posted September 29, 2022 #9 Share Posted September 29, 2022 We have a Norway cruise booked with Celebrity in May. I did look at other lines but they weren’t the exact dates we could go.
JeanieC,Aston Posted September 29, 2022 #10 Share Posted September 29, 2022 Been to the Fjords several times, last time last month. The weather in the Norwegian Fjords can be mixed at the best of times even in Summer. I have been in July and it rained every day. Been in May and it’s been lovely sunshine. I prefer May as with the melting snow the waterfalls are at their magnificent best. On my cruise last month they were down to a trickle.

I had read that the weather could be more rainy in the summer months. We have booked the Apex for May 7th out of Amsterdam which should be very nice. Rare chemmo Posted September 29, 2022 #12 Share Posted September 29, 2022 We have also cruised the Fjords in early May and had excellent weather. Lovely in the sun but very chilly in the shade. Definitely need to pack layers. The fact it doesn’t go dark until late was really nice.
Rare ggo85 Posted September 30, 2022 #13 Share Posted September 30, 2022 We just did the Norwegian fjords for 2 weeks in mid-July. Temps in the 50s and some rain. Never wore shorts the entire cruise. Everyone was buying sweatshirts. We were told it had been in the 80s a week earlier. You never know.
