ChemistBabe Posted October 16, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2022 We are planning to rent.a car while in Skagway and drive the Yukon highway. We absolutely want to stop and see the sled dogs and go for a cart ride. (I have two school age kiddos.) Where is the best place to do this? (Is there a stop we can make that the tour busses don't???) Thanks!
Ashland Posted October 17, 2022 #2 Share Posted October 17, 2022 Any other port stops? Gold Rush Dog Tours is a great option in Juneau.

However, if you're renting a car, you can go on your own schedule and miss the tour groups. Our tour ate lunch there. It was E-M-P-T-Y before our bus got there. You have the option to visit the dogs with or without the sled pull. The scenery between Skagway and Carcross is incredible. The best views are in Canada. I highly recommend it. Rare Monica887 Posted November 19, 2022 #5 Share Posted November 19, 2022 We rented a car and drove to emerald lake and back. The Caribou facility I believe is the bigger touristy spot with a museum and cafe etc. We did the Tutshi sled dog tours along that same route instead. Km 74.5 South Klondike Highway. No bells and whistles. But for $7 a person we snuggled with all the puppies. For extra we also took the ride and a short lecture. The people were lovely. But since we know we were on a little time crunch it was just right for us and our ES age kids.
