Thrak Posted November 23, 2022 #2 Share Posted November 23, 2022 As far as I know the answer is Yes. Not sure why anybody would want to hassle with a cruise card but I guess you must have your reasons. You would need to visit Passenger Services to make the swap. Dar & Bob Posted November 23, 2022 #4 Share Posted November 23, 2022 @oskidunkerwhy you don't want a medallion. Works much better than a sea card, your door opens without taking it out of your pocket purse or whatever. You don't have to use any other features.

Using a complicated faulty system to open your cabin door seems to me like a solution looking for a problem. How did we ever unlock our cabin doors before they introduced the medallion? We all know that the medallion was introduced as a marketing ploy so the cruise line can track you on the ship and more important track what you spend money on so that they can send you more targeting ads. Dar & Bob Posted November 23, 2022 #9 Share Posted November 23, 2022 (edited) @donaldscLOL so how about we go back to keys? Sprocket Posted November 23, 2022 #12 Share Posted November 23, 2022 Why not give it a try for a day at least. Scanning on and off the ship is easy, ordering drinks, making purchases in the shops is super simple. It’s not just for opening your door. We love it.

They know exactly where you are every time you use your card for any reason. They know every time someone enters or leaves your cabin. And they have state of the art CCTV in all public areas. So they can still track you anywhere you go on the ship any time they want. You are deluding yourself if you think a card makes any difference. 11
skidroe Posted November 23, 2022 #15 Share Posted November 23, 2022 Not every one can use an Medallion, my wife has a pacemaker and it is NOT recommended for her. I go by what my wife's heart doctor says.

I can picture it now - a bunch of paranoids with their key cards carefully tucked away in faraday sleeves and slinking around wearing a Guy Fawkes mask to hide their identity, all in an attempt to not be tracked. But, they forget that they are on a 1000ft long floating tub in the middle of the ocean, so they can be found if those insidious "trackers" wanted to find them. On our last Princess cruise I was able to get a card from the purser's office. I told the purser what I had planned for the card, it didn't need it to actually work.....I have no idea if if would have worked, I used my Medallion while on the ship....but the card came home with me. The Medallions are handy and have many uses; but collecting them isn't one of them IMHO.😎 Doug Edited November 23, 2022 by PaperSniper4
NavyCruiser Posted November 23, 2022 #21 Share Posted November 23, 2022 Don't care about Princess tracking me, it's my wife tracking me that I'm concerned about. Try using an RFID wallet or piece of aluminum foil to keep your medallion wrapped in. 😉

It is not true for the RFID cards. The medallion reads as a Mifare Plus card so I assume the door card is the same.
