Rare Over from NZ Posted December 10, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2022 Hello. Looking for ideas for Kotor. We're there from 7am to 3pm. Last time we were there for the day, we hired a day excursion that took us to Budva, Perast, Lady of the rocks and so-on. Was excellent. However, it was late getting back and we only had about 15-mins to walk around Kotor old town, so didn't really see much of that. Am thinking this time we would like to have a decent wander round the old town. Probably also walk to the top of the hill to the fortress which I think we should allow about an hour to an hour an a half for the return trip. Is that going to be enough to fill the day.. or should we be looking for more?
Rare Hlitner Posted December 11, 2022 #2 Share Posted December 11, 2022 It sure fills our day, but we also take time to enjoy a long and relaxing lunch/drinks. Hank
edinburgher Posted December 12, 2022 #3 Share Posted December 12, 2022 Filled our day the first time, and we didn't even dare climb the hill. Second time we took a public bus to Perast and Our Lady and spent the afternoon in town. We took our time both times and had 2 or 3 stops each time as it was blisteringly hot on both occasions. Be aware of temperatures if you go ahead with the climb, dress appropriately and carry plenty water for frequent stops.
Kiwi Dreamer Posted December 31, 2022 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2022 A climb to the top is a must. You will still have plenty of time to explore the town itself as well.
dentst2b Posted January 8, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2023 We are traveling with a group from 67yo to 11 yo. What fitness level do you suggest for the climb to the fortress? Thanks!

Can the 67 year old do a reasonably steep hill climb that lasts an hour and a half? 🙂

May explore the town first and depending on how much wine is consumed, attempt the climb. I am 70 but in good shape, so hope to reach the top. Thanks for the advice. Simon-t Posted February 3, 2023 #8 Share Posted February 3, 2023 The climb up the hill is hard work, but you are rewarded with some fantastic views. My tip would be to go as early as possible before the sun gets too high. We found the climb, a wander around the old town, with lunch and a beer (or two…) was a great way to fill the day. edinburgher Posted February 5, 2023 #10 Share Posted February 5, 2023 No!. Walk up only. When you see it you will understand why. 1
