Mikiejag Posted January 2, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2023 Trying to see what there is to do, if it is still a tender port, shopping right off the tender or just excursion to stingrays? Kind of a short stop, 10am - 6pm. Would have liked just a beach day, but no excursions to do just that.

You can take a shared taxi to different parts of the beach. It is about $6. You could go to Public Beach where there are chairs for rent and no entry fee or Coral Beach Club which hs a $5 fee. Rare YVRteacher Posted January 2, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2023 We did the tour that included turtles, rum cake and beach. We loved the turtles and the beach. Really fun for swimming. Took a taxi back to the tender spot. It was super hot!
Karaboudjan Posted January 2, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2023 I found George Town to be an interesting place to just walk around. It had a lot more of the local flavor than most of the Mexico/Caribbean ports that I have been to, meaning that you will be in the same place as locals eat, work and shop and not some tourist enclave. There are also some interesting old buildings if you are into that. Finally, there was the 'dancing policeman' doing quite a show of directing traffic. That alone was worth the short tender ride. All in all I'd say George Town has a similar vibe to Hamilton or St George's in Bermuda.
Rare SimplyAlbert Posted January 2, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2023 If you like to snorkel, we walked down to the Eden Rock Dive Center and rented the equipment and snorkeled from the shore. Saw lots of fish, coral, etc. Price to rent the equipment was $17/pp for mask, snorkel, fins & vest and it was $5 for a locker (several years ago so prices may have gone up). We had a great time. Stopped to do some shopping in the port and for a drink before heading back on board.
FLcruisergrl Posted January 2, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2023 Still a tender port. I highly recommend Stingray City. If you’re more of a lay on the beach person, definitely 7 mile beach.
jtdlmc Posted January 2, 2023 #9 Share Posted January 2, 2023 We love just wandering around the town, going to one of the restaurants for lunch/drinks. We have done the stingray tour twice and loved it, but if that's something you are interested in go with a private group and not the cruise line as there will be much less people. There are lots of tour operators right in town who offer tours around the area very cheap. We went that route one time. She took us to a turtle place, a beach, Hell and a scenic drive. Very cheap. BenDover Posted January 2, 2023 #10 Share Posted January 2, 2023 For me, Grand Cayman is a great day to stay on the ship while everyone gets off 😎 1

The board is still active regularly. Post or two a day on average. Tons of up-to-date threads with beach info, some excursion stuff. The only actual beach club left is Coral Beach - https://coralbeach.ky - or there are lots of vendors at Public Beach now (where Calico Jacks used to be) including chair rentals and such. Tutone56 Posted January 2, 2023 #12 Share Posted January 2, 2023 Grand Cayman was one of our favorite stops on the Western Caribbean. We enjoyed 7 mile beach and then going through a few of the shops in town before returning to the ship.
Rare Peachypooh Posted January 2, 2023 #13 Share Posted January 2, 2023 It is a tender port. We booked a resort pass at a place that has a private pool from a non NCL vendor beforehand. It had a nice beach. Needed to take a taxi there.
Mikiejag Posted January 4, 2023 Author #14 Share Posted January 4, 2023 Decided to go with an excursion that meets at 1030. Then it gets me off the ship as soon as possible and still leaves the afternoon free. Time for some sting rays I think.
Dancing Shoes Posted January 17, 2023 #15 Share Posted January 17, 2023 (edited) We are going on the ship's sting ray/snorkel tour that goes out past the sandbar. Deeper water. will wander around town when done and get lunch. 7 mile beach has really changed since we visited the Holdiay Inn back in the day for the $$$ hot dog and 2 cokes.
