Rare Jeter02 Posted January 22, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2023 Some cruise lines already are smoke free with their casinos, and some enlarging the casino space to offer more areas that are considered smoke-free. Do you think casinos onboard should be a smoke free zone?
Rare Jeter02 Posted January 22, 2023 Author #2 Share Posted January 22, 2023 Personally for me, I wish the casinos were smoke-free, especially when you have to cut through the casino to get to the theater. It's not the most pleasant walk through. 8
Rare azbirdmom Posted January 22, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2023 I've made the smoke free casino recommendation in every post-cruise survey (except for the ones received when smoking was banned in the casino under the Covid rules). Not only did smoking come back to the casino after those rules were lifted, but the non-smoking on formal night policy was gone too. Have also stated that same thing on the periodic "WAVES" text surveys that I receive from the Carnival corp casino area. No offense against smokers - I just don't like inhaling smoke while I'm playing in the casino.
dog Posted January 22, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2023 I do not go to casinos where smoking is allowed anymore. My choice.
Rare Lady Arwen Posted January 22, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2023 Of course, the casinos should be non-smoking. Everyone would enjoy the casino together and the smokers could go outside to enjoy a nice, comfortable area to smoke, as they’ve done on Celebrity. It’s a win-win for everyone.
eclue Posted January 22, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2023 I wish Princess would read these posts and also the surveys that we send...Seems non smoking is the way to go... 6
tonit964 Posted January 22, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2023 Princess is behind the times. Smokers that are gamblers will adapt to a smoke free casino the same way they had to adapt to most if not all indoor places being smoke free. Smokers still fly, go to restaurants, movies, health care facilities, work, etc. 7
davekathy Posted January 22, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2023 (edited) Smoke free casinos plus no inside smoking at all has worked well for years on Celebrity. 👍👍 Edited January 22, 2023 by davekathy 7
Rare Cruise Raider Posted January 22, 2023 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2023 All indoor areas on a ship should be nonsmoking and have designated areas outside for smokers. They figured out how to do that when banning smoking on the balconies. With that being said, the Royal has a nonsmoking area that is actually partitioned off from the rest of the casino. It's rather small but still very nice to have some space without smoke. People can use it to get to the casino and there is a cozy bar area there as well. 2

Rare MrSchwump Posted January 22, 2023 #11 Share Posted January 22, 2023 How about smoking night in the casino, maybe 1 or 2 on a 7 night cruise? Wouldn’t that be more fair than an outright ban?

While that might be true, our last cruise on the Royal (ending 6 days ago), the nonsmoking area was definitely free of smoke. I am very sensitive to smoke and it was not a problem for me in the very least. There just may have been fewer smokers onboard, too??
MsSoCalCruiser Posted January 22, 2023 #13 Share Posted January 22, 2023 I think that the casino and all other indoor areas should be smoke-free. I don’t understand why they continue to allow smoking indoors. Don’t they care what it’s doing to their employee’s health? 4
Rare JimmyVWine Posted January 22, 2023 #14 Share Posted January 22, 2023 To me this isn’t even a close call. The casino is an indoor space, same as a gift shop, dining room or performance venue. The idea that it has a special rule applied to it because the people in there are engaging in one type of “vice” and therefore they should be able to engage in a second “vice” is ludicrous. All indoor spaces should have the same rules apply except if the ship wants to provide a very specific smoking lounge. Churchill’s can be a smoking venue. And if they want, Princess can put a poker table and some slot machines in there too. But the casino should be treated the same as Crooners, the Vista Lounge or Explorers. 7

I'll bet (pun intended 😉) someone else on the same cruise in the casino at the same time and location as you were would post just the opposite. We've yet to be on any ship/cruise line that allows smoking in the casino that the stench didn't migrate into the other surrounding areas. I'm not sensitive to smoke. I blame Princess or whatever cruise line for this, not the smoker. IMO, the problem with allowing smoking in the casino is it turns the casino into a smoking lounge that at certain times allows gambling. Rare Lady Arwen Posted January 22, 2023 #22 Share Posted January 22, 2023 Could we please hear from the few who think it’s a good idea to allow smoking in the casino. Not one has commented, yet and we’d like you to give us your side of the argument.
justafem Posted January 22, 2023 #23 Share Posted January 22, 2023 It looks like the survey is exactly as I would have guessed. About 13% of the US population smokes, as shown by the 13% that voted to keep smoking.

I quit smoking cold turkey in 1991 after smoking for 26 years and if I still smoked my response would be, Princess allows me to smoke in the casino and so I will. If you don't like it your beef is with Princess not me! I also thought it was everyone else who had the problem, I.e. the stench because I smoked. Didn't stink to me. I'm proud to say, I stand corrected.
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted January 22, 2023 #25 Share Posted January 22, 2023 I cruise pre-covid when no smoking on formal nights. It was pleasant. I cruised post covid with total no smoking ban. It was pleasant. I cruised post covid with smoking allowed EVERY DAY. Not pleasant. I would be ecstatic if the casino was no smoking at all, but would even accept no smoking on formal nights. How did Princess go from no smoking to all smoking?
