That can amount to a fair amount of change! Nice- we may need to find those TA's!

At sea days Posted May 17, 2023 #54 Share Posted May 17, 2023 Last year in July we stayed in the Baglioni Venice with its own dock and easy walk to St. Marks Square….hotel is beautiful old European style with a fun bar and lovely dining room for breakfast…service was excellent …unfortunately we found Venice to be really dirty…highlight was the boat ride from the train station to the hotel…. 1

Rare highplanesdrifters Posted December 4, 2023 Author #57 Share Posted December 4, 2023 Circling back to report on The Londra. Venice was lovely but crowded. We thoroughly enjoyed The Londra. Great location. We had rooms with small balconies overlooking the canal which were charming and well appointed. Wifi and water pressure worked well. The outstanding part was staff. Service, service, service! They helped us with excellent dinner reservations, last minute guides, and transfers. Breakfast was very good and the evening restaurant was delicious. Thank all for your suggestions.
Rare ak1004 Posted December 4, 2023 #58 Share Posted December 4, 2023 We did some research, based on this thread and online reviews. Some of the hotels mentioned here are simply way above our budget. St. Regis, St. Regis, Monaco Grand Canal etc seem like fantastic places, I just cannot justify spending that kind of money for a place where we basically will only sleep and shower. Moresco looks like a good option at decent price, but they have only non refundable rates, and we don't book non refundable rates as a matter of principle. We ended up booking Novecento, a small boutique hotel in a quiet area of San Marco. You can book only directly with the hotel, not on booking sites like expedia. We will share our experience, but based on the reviews, it looks like a good value for money.
Rare highplanesdrifters Posted December 4, 2023 Author #59 Share Posted December 4, 2023 FWIW, our friends stayed at Ca' Segredo and enjoyed it. Got a Virtuoso upgrade to a canal room.

I'm typically the same. I booked via Booking and the rate was cancellable up to 4 days prior. Not sure if that has changed. I always get insurance as well in case of the unforeseen. Had a room with terrace but it was somewhat cool to really enjoy it but the view of the canal and the alps was wonderful. Minibar was included in the room. Agree Venice was very crowded and with high tide and the walkways over the flooding made St. Marks such a crowded a mess it felt like Disney!

We were there during full moon Oct. 26- 29. I guess we lucked out. We did sail through some storms and missed our first port. So I guess that must have sent the excess water your way. So sorry. It was Disney when we were there. But with walkways, must have been Disney on Steroids. Hope you had some fun! We did all the usual, but also went to the Maritime Museum. It was empty and very interesting. Did you find any hidden gems?
