DeputyDawg46 Posted February 16, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2023 Looking for Hotel Recommendations in Southampton, UK, in the May timeframe. Decent, clean, and possibly free breakfast. Would like to be able to walk in the area. No need for car park. Needing for a couple nights in between cruises. TIA DDawg

Rare John Bull Posted February 16, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2023 Suggestions on this thread https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2879256-south-hampton-hotel/ And on this webpage https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/southampton_accommodation.htm Of the hotels on the map on that page ........... Nos 12 & 13 & 14 & 9 are the least-convenient Nos 1 & 2 & 3 are by the train station, a ten-minute walk to the centre-point of the city. Centrepoint of Southampton is the Bargate, the northern entrance to the walled city and which neatly divides old-town from the post-war main shopping street All of the other hotels are conveniently located for the waterfront or for old-town or for the big West Quay shopping mall - or for all three Most popular with cruisers are Holiday Inn (Herbert Walker Avenue) , Premier Inn West Quay and the new Moxy. Pig in the Wall, Ennio's, Mercure Dolphin and White Star rooms are boutiques, the other hotels are rather bland cloned modern hotels, but clean & comfortable. The White Star Tavern, mentioned by Tony, is on Oxford Street, near Room2 (n. 15) Room2 is just across a park from Ocean cruise terminal. None of the hotels mentioned are more than a £10 taxi ride from any cruise terminal JB 🙂

There are also restaurants inside the John Lewis and M&S department stores, or there’s a McDonald’s, Krispy Kreme and Costa Coffee for something quicker. Yes, it's just a two minute walk to a number of the restaurants in the "Showcase" building adjacent the shopping mall (including Bill's, mentioned by Gumshoe) which are are open for breakfast. Turn left out of the hotel & take the path up the right-hand side of the Showcase building. Alternatively the Thyme restaurant of Premier Inn West Quay right next door to the Moxy is open to non-residents JB 🙂
