firefly333 Posted March 5, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2023 (edited) I was reading 3 options. Explorer 6 day wow. Full refund, plus $300 plus the difference in fares. Of course 2 other dates and a refund. I'm on oasis next sunday so noticed it. Too bad it's not us. Was a bit more expensive than usual for me this spring break. A full refund would be nice. Here is the wording to switch to the 6 day. I dont see this posted. Forgive me if I am blind. " Sail on a Different Ship The first option is to transfer the Wonder of the Seas booking to Explorer of the Seas instead, sailing from PortMiami on March 12 for a 6-night cruise rather than a 7-night cruise. This option will also include a 100% refund of the Wonder of the Seas fare, as well as a $300 onboard credit to enjoy Explorer of the Seas. If the Explorer of the Seas fare is lower than the fare paid for Wonder of the Seas, guests will also receive a refund for the price difference, returned to their original form of payment. Guests must still pay taxes, port fees, and gratuities for the new cruise." Edited March 5, 2023 by firefly333 Wonder oversold

Not sure which categories are oversold. It said they are getting the offer not all.
smokeybandit Posted March 5, 2023 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2023 I would imagine the only way to oversell is sell too many GTY cabins.
cello56 Posted March 5, 2023 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2023 We are on Harmony next Saturday and also got the "Your cruise is oversold" email last Friday. Does anyone know how long it takes them to get back to you if you accept the ship change and refund? Their email was sent about 5pm and we accepted the offer about 8pm. Rare BirdTravels Posted March 5, 2023 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2023 Every travel industry business oversells. Airlines, Hotels, Cruise Lines. Airlines have very sophisticated yield management models that predict on a day-by-day, flight-by-flight basis how many people will cancel at the last minute and how many people will no-show. And, if more people show up than expected for a flight, they offer credit for people to give up their seats and eventually deny boarding if they don't get enough volunteers. Cruise lines have a less sophisticated models which are continually evolving post-COVID. As the predicted number of people don't cancel at final payment and each penalty milestone, they send out offers (much much much more generous than the airlines) for people to "get off". And, if enough people don't volunteer their cabins, will cancel reservations (i.e., you get denied boarding in advance of being at the terminal).
cruisegirl1 Posted March 5, 2023 #8 Share Posted March 5, 2023 I’m on B2B (12th and 19th) and luckily no email. I’m hoping that all the notices are already out. Hopefully I’m set for both cruises. Going to another embarkation port is not an option for those who already have airfare/pre cruise (non refundable) hotel , long drive etc. Perhaps an option for those who live in the area. I’ve done lots at GTY cabins but NEVER on Oasis class. Too big snd too many variables. m

resetjet Posted March 5, 2023 #10 Share Posted March 5, 2023 Honestly I would take the offer in a second if I paid for the cruise. But when you have a hundred free cruises to choose from, the thought of a "free" cruise is not worth much. Maybe a future cruise in the grand suite!!!!!!!
tcneal Posted March 5, 2023 #11 Share Posted March 5, 2023 I'm on the Explorer Mar 12th cruise so it looks like we will have a few more people. It's interesting because I thought the Explorer was full since the sailing has been off the website for a while. I would take the offer since it fits in the same timeframe, but I sail enough and I'm not bringing small kids. But if this was my once in a couple of years spring break sailing, I would probably pass.

I believe the offer becomes mandatory once they take in all the accepted offers. So, a few people will have to switch. But, I think they usually get enough takers. The mandatory offer might be a sweeter deal than what is offered now.

Starry Eyes Posted March 5, 2023 #17 Share Posted March 5, 2023 47 minutes ago, luckyinpa said: what happens if enough people dont get bumped. The last time it happened they got enough volunteers. In fact, they even advertised cabins for sale a couple days before the previously oversold cruise (last minute cancellations resulting in available cabins, I presume). I think they will get enough volunteers this time as it might be a pretty sweet offer for a person with a flexible plans. The third option offered to guests is to completely cancel their sailing. Not only will guests receive a full, 100% refund of their cruise fare, but they will also receive a 100% cruise fare future cruise credit (FCC), which can be used for any Royal Caribbean sailing departing through March 15, 2024.

Move from 7 night Harmony to 6 night Explorer and get 100% of our money paid on Harmony back plus $300 OBC. I am guessing the OBC makes up for the one less day cruise. Either way we will have a great time, but the financial incentive was too good to turn down. I asked on the RCI FB page and they said that we won't hear the result until after the deadline for accepting. I thought that sounded strange as they said limited time and available space so you would think they would want to get this sorted out asap. Does anyone know what criteria they use to pick the offers to accept?

GlasgowCruiser01 Posted March 5, 2023 #25 Share Posted March 5, 2023 I'd be pissed if I booked the newest Oasis Class ship and the offer was to transfer to 22 year old Explorer.
