tomcruiser1234 Posted May 14, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2023 Hi. We have yet to travel on any of the new Edge ships. We have a free have gotten a free Veranda to use Via a future cruise credit. Which Edge ship do you recommend or does it really matter? Thanks
RichYak Posted May 14, 2023 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2023 Whichever you choose, be sure to book early. There are very, very few veranda cabins on Edge class and they go quickly.
lizinindy Posted May 14, 2023 #3 Share Posted May 14, 2023 The Edge class has infinite verandas, not like S class verandas
lola2013 Posted May 14, 2023 #4 Share Posted May 14, 2023 Also Sunset Verandah which is a true balcony. As Rich said, book early. SVs are very popular and book quickly.
WestLakeGirl Posted May 14, 2023 #5 Share Posted May 14, 2023 Definitely do your homework so you know the difference between a veranda and an “infinite verandah” which is a room with a window
NorthStarStateCruiser Posted May 14, 2023 #6 Share Posted May 14, 2023 OK people. I think the OP has gotten the point about verandas on the Edge class. 48 minutes ago, tomcruiser1234 said: Hi. Thanks The Edge class ships are all very similar. Beyond and Ascent are the newest and have a couple more offerings. You wouldn't be missing out on much if you booked Edge or Apex. Where did this future cruise credit come from and does it have any limitations? Sail by date, veranda category (porthole, sunset, infinite), itinerary, price? There's plenty of people on CruiseCritic who would rather jump ship than sail in an infinite veranda and they are very vocal about it, so be aware.
tomcruiser1234 Posted May 14, 2023 Author #7 Share Posted May 14, 2023 Thanks It’s sounds like the ships are very similar. This is very helpful and allows us to pick the itinerary we prefer rather than the Edge ship. It looks like they will credit normal balcony cost and allow us to even use for upgraded cabins As always. Great info on Cruise critic.

Where did you get this unspecified balcony future cruise credit? I've only heard of such a thing from casinos.

phoenix_dream Posted May 14, 2023 #10 Share Posted May 14, 2023 Any time a new class of ships comes out, the newer ones will always have some changes or perks that weren't on the original as they learn as they go along. For example, the design of the Martini Bar was changed from being along the side to being in the middle of the area. A much better design. Also, in Retreat, the design was modified to include two floors instead of one. Haven't sailed on it yet so can't give detailed feedback. But they are all very similar so I would choose by itinerary. tomcruiser1234 Posted May 14, 2023 Author #11 Share Posted May 14, 2023 Actually. We were both made Zenith last April. Kinda did not want to seem like bragging. Almost let it lapse since you only have 12 months to use or loose I had to book something last minute for 7 days Veranda and was told we can rebook and not loose. 5

No need to hide the fact you hit Zenith. That's awesome! Yeah based on the terms I've read you'll get a Deluxe porthole veranda if you go with an Edge class ship since they're considered the lowest veranda category. Sounds like you can pay to upgrade from there.

miched Posted May 14, 2023 #15 Share Posted May 14, 2023 The Beyond has a better layout for the Martini Bar, and also has a World Class Bar The Sunset bar is also nicer. There is also the plunge pools by the Sunset bar. Cafe al Bacio is laid out different. For the most part all of the Edge class are about the same (other than the bars noted ) except for the Retreat areas and that shouldn’t affect you. If you were booking a suite I would recommend the Beyond. Haven’t been on the Ascent so I can’t comment. Since you are Zenith and get the premium bev pack I would say the Beyond. Think of the Beyond as the Silhouette or Reflection compared to he Solstice Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅 1

I just booked and I’m in a C1 on 12 th floor …it seems the spa is above me and I’m close to elevator …so to me it sounds perfect ….agent told me to let her know if I want to change . I can’t find too much information on cabin locations. Any info would be appreciated..thanks
Rare lorimay Posted May 15, 2023 #20 Share Posted May 15, 2023 We were on Beyond in October and Edge in February. Although they are similar, Beyond was definitely upgraded. The whole central area with the Martini Bar and al Bacio is much better layout. Also, the video screens in the theater are fully LED and the experience is much better. The rooms are similar (had an infinite veranda both times and loved it - but preferred with the bed by the veranda). There are little improvements all over Beyond but everything just seemed to be designed and engineered well and made sense. Also, on Edge they held trivia and other events in Eden and the sound system was so bad they had to hand out questions on paper. They said on Beyond it's state of the art. We liked Edge class over M class by a lot, over S class by a little, but if I had my choice of the same itinerary on Beyond or any other ship I would choose Beyond. I will 100% admit to being one of those people BUT want to share this: We sailed on EDGE not long after it debuted and did not like our IV. It was a Caribbean itinerary, and my major problem with it was that it had a marketing problem. Back then it was marketed as a balcony cabin and a balcony cabin it is not. To me, its a glorified sunroom. On that sailing, we really missed having a traditional balcony to sit on. Last week, we sailed on APEX in Norway. For our Norwegian sailing, the IV was lovely to have! It was cold, we would have spent little time out on a traditional balcony, and I loved sitting in front of that window viewing the scenery and reading my book. When I wanted unobstructed photos I opened the IV, when I wanted to hear the water I just cracked it. And when Cafe al Bacio was way too crowded/loud to sit and read, I sat in my own cabin against that window and read my book in peace and quiet! Is the IV our favorite all of a sudden? No. But it has some pros I refused to credit it with on our original EDGE sailing. And I wouldn't avoid an EDGE class ship anymore like I said I would after that initial sailing due to the IV!

Rare Germancruiser Posted May 16, 2023 #23 Share Posted May 16, 2023 The whole area around the Martini Bar and the Martini Bar itself is, in my opinion, the worst part of the ship. Loud- noisy and in the middle of everything. Most passengers seem to love it that way- so I am aware that I am in the minority here. The Martini Bar of the Millenium Class was a classy, elegant place, even after their Solistication, with the intro of the S- Class ships the MB become louder and more noisy. Edge Class topps them all - it even ruins Al Bacio one deck up. Edge Clas has wonderful spots no dout about it. ( I only know Apex- but they are all the - or almost the same layout) SV- Verandah Cabin on the E- Class are the best balcony cabins ever. They are rare and sell fast. Since they are almost the only REAL balcony cabins.
