Ace_Caliente Posted July 5, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2023 I see in the journey view for our sailing on the Caribbean Princess coming up there are a number of listings for "Cards & Board Games Get-Together" in one of the dining rooms. I don't remember this being a thing at all on the Regal last summer in the Med sailing we were on. Is there actually a library of board games and card games to play? I think I remember in the Regal's library seeing a deck of cards or two, but not really much for board games (maybe there was Clue or something like that). Anyway, my question is, are there a variety of games available or is it simply whatever guests bring on board? I usually pack a deck of cards when we travel but that's about it. skynight Posted July 5, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2023 These are times set aside for non-hosted games. Passengers usually bring their own such as cards and mahjong. You will also find passengers playing at tables around the pools and anywhere else they can locate an open table. I can't comment on what games are available on the ship.
coo359a2 Posted July 5, 2023 #3 Share Posted July 5, 2023 On the Regal last fall, the MDR on deck 5 was open for part of the day for table games. Currently on the Sky, times are set aside in the Crown Grill for reading, book exchanges and table games. People are still playing table games, etc in other areas around the ship. Someone on the Sky Entertainment Staff sets out different board games in the Crown Grill. Have no idea what games they have
dad2my3 Posted July 5, 2023 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2023 The library has several copies of Trivial Pursuit. If there’s a particular game you want to play, you might want to bring it with you if you have room.
wolfie11 Posted July 6, 2023 #5 Share Posted July 6, 2023 Last time I sailed on Princess, they had really old board games like Monopoly and Clue. It would be nice if they could at least upgrade to Settlers of Catan or Ticket to Ride. I'm not bringing board games with me. I don't have the room in my luggage.
Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted July 7, 2023 #6 Share Posted July 7, 2023 Yeah, you'd have to be really desperate to play a favorite game to bring it on board with you...unless it REALLY took up very little space. Those that live within driving distance of their port may have a different view of this...
SimplyMarvie Posted July 7, 2023 #7 Share Posted July 7, 2023 There are quite a few games that are really small. We have the travel edition of Catan and usually bring that. This time we'll bring some card games (one about sushi and one about fireworks, on point for a Japanese cruise) and Flux and a set of Munchkin. They're no bigger than my husband's shaving kit all told and with four sea days we might need the entertainment.
WillieJJ Posted June 12 #8 Share Posted June 12 Playing board and card games on board can be a great way to pass the time and bond with others. One classic option is solitaire, which can be played alone and doesn't require much space. Another fun choice is Uno, a fast-paced card game that's easy to learn and can be played with a small group. For something more strategic, try chess or checkers. These games are timeless and can provide hours of entertainment. If you're looking for something more modern, consider Exploding Kittens or Codenames. These games are easy to learn but offer plenty of depth for repeated plays. Whatever you choose, playing games on board can make your journey more enjoyable and memorable.
Incognito1 Posted June 12 #9 Share Posted June 12 Met a Scrabble champ on one of my cruises. She brought her own board and it was a real challenge (I play on isc.ro, but she was far smarter than I am). I usually go to these, but they're often poorly organized and/or poorly attended. I think the intent is to keep the mahjong players that hog all the buffet table space from doing so - it doesn't work. I second Exploding Kittens! Great game. I had my BurningCat pins all ready for Portland, and was really sad to see that it's been indefinitely canceled.

matamanoa Posted June 12 #11 Share Posted June 12 On our recent cruise on the Coral, there were quite a few games available - Scrabble, Checkers, Backgammon, Uno, cribbage, Monopoly. On the Grand there was only one or two Scrabble games but boxes full of the others mentioned above. Some people brought their own games from home. Always decks of cards available.
Kay S Posted June 13 #12 Share Posted June 13 Most games we found were missing pieces.

I would check the games to make sure all the pieces are there. Same with jig saw puzzles
