smitty34877 Posted July 25, 2023 #27 Share Posted July 25, 2023 Good morning. The really hot weather is expected to come here by Thursday.it is pretty warm already and I felt rather melted after the long dog walk earlier. I do a lot of cooking and enjoy it but do not consider myself anything fancy. The garlic shrimp recipe(first one) looks great, thanks Tina @0106. I will pass on chili dogs and often had “ thread the needle” jobs over the years. I honestly don’t miss that anxiety! Nearsightedness has left me with the ability to physically thread a needle. @marshhawk, Annie, I will be thinking of you and Chuck today and hope the docs are able to help. I hope we hear some news about Sam and baby Murphy. It was so nice to look at my clean house after the two women left. They did a great job and were not alarmed by the dogs or the people who are not well. I hope we all can have a good day today. 33

Twain wrote a response that ran in the Journal on June 2, 1897: I can understand perfectly how the report of my illness got about, I have even heard on good authority that I was dead. James Ross Clemens, a cousin of mine, was seriously ill two or three weeks ago in London, but is well now. The report of my illness grew out of his illness. The second was in 2002 on Volendam on the 64 day APEC cruise. These are DH's pictures from 2000 and my pictures from 2002. In 2000, we arrived about noon after sailing through the large container port. I think at that time, it was the largest one in the world. We took a taxi into town, and did a short tour of places the driver thought interesting. Then we rode their monorail around the island to get a look at the areas away from downtown. We walked down a pedestrian shopping street. Our next stop was Raffles, but we did not go to the Long Bar. We did have supper n the patio. From Raffles we walked down the the waterfront and took a boat to see more of the sights. Singapore at night from the boat ride. In 2002, there was a performance by some costumed dancers. These two posed for us as got off the ship. We took the shuttle into town and walked around. This time we did make it to the Long Bar. A busy street downtown Lenda I love these photos Lenda. 14

1ANGELCAT Posted July 25, 2023 #33 Share Posted July 25, 2023 Good warm and humid morning. Thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and then the heat starts tomorrow. It’s supposed to be in the mid to upper 90’s through Saturday. A chili dog sounds good but I’ve had a lot of hot dogs lately. Blessings and prayers to all on our lists.

durangoscots Posted July 25, 2023 #35 Share Posted July 25, 2023 Still dry and hot. At least the mornings are cool and the dogs and I can get in a good walk before the sidewalks get too hot for their little foots and it gets too hot for my little comfort. Have been to Singapore twice and loved it. And I know I would like the garlic shrimp.... One of my favorite combinations. Little on my schedule for today. I need to get the trash out to the dumpster before it (the dumpster) heats up and I can't lift the lid without burning my hand. That is the first order of business in a few minutes. Then straightening the house as the gal who does my feet is coming in tomorrow to work on my toes as I am having trouble with one of them. I don't bend easily and really can not see what I am doing. Glad I am not having to thread a needle. More later.... take care everyone. Susan
Mtn2Sea Posted July 25, 2023 #36 Share Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) We visited Singapore in 2019 while aboard the Amsterdam. We took an all day excursion, visiting many areas of the city including Chinatown where we had lunch. In the afternoon, we stopped at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and went to the observation deck where we could see all of the city, including the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest (our last stop for the day). Cruising-along Posted July 25, 2023 #37 Share Posted July 25, 2023 Good morning all! We enjoyed the rain yesterday, very much needed! It will stay cooler (high 60's-low 70's) for another week before heating up again. I don't consider myself a culinarian other than on the days I make one of Debbie's @dfish or Tina's @0106 recipes 😉 No chili dogs for me. In the literal sense, I can still thread a needle since I'm near-sighted. If I'm wearing my contacts it's harder. I always liked the Twain quote, but also heard it was misquoted. I love any stir fry and we have it often. But I can't have any with soy sauce because even the low sodium is too high for me. Tonight will be slow cooker BBQ ribs. I'd also love the drink but would have to have it in the morning (LOL) because any caffeine later in the day keeps me awake all night. 😂 Will pass on the red wine. DH was in Singapore in the Navy, but we haven't cruised there. Yesterday I had a message from my primary care office saying they have to cancel my August appointment because my doctor is doing only virtual visits for the next few months (!!) I'm wondering why, I've never had this happen before. I hope she's ok, this is kind of odd. It's just a follow-up of my 6-month labs, and I honestly think those appointments are a waste of time unless I'm having a problem. I can see my lab results within minutes online, I don't see the need to go in, wait, and have her tell me what I already know. So I'm not sure I'll do the online visit, have never done one, and the one time DH did, it didn't work well. Nancy @ottahand7 Very nice tomato plants! I just have 1 plant, but last night we had our first tomato with dinner -- yum. 28

RMLincoln Posted July 25, 2023 #39 Share Posted July 25, 2023 Good late morning. Another sleepless night. Moving forward. I’ve been trying to get pictures of the cousin we’re having the Remembrance gather for soon. I can’t find mom’s 2 oldest photo albums, from the 40s and 50s. Frustrating. But I did find and go through her 1960s-1980s albums and that included a lot of my early life, not all pleasant times for me. Maybe too much emotional stimulation has kept me from being able to wind down and sleep. Plus I’m working on plans to help get my sister to the gathering. She’s not as able to get herself places so in a weak but loving moment I said we’d come get her. We’re in Maryland. She’s in a mountain cabin in Vermont. The gathering is in the mid Hudson Valley, NY It’s doable but not easy. DH and I were going to stay at a cousin’s only an hour from DS but that cousin just had a heart attack and stents, so we’ll find someplace else and leave her to recover peacefully. Compared to so many people’s much more urgent and difficult issues, mine are pretty ho-hum but we still have to figure it out. It’ll all happen. Getting much hotter here this week, will be worst Friday and Saturday. We’re staying in. Last week before eye surgery. Chilli dogs are not my thing. I had never had one till I moved to western Colorado. Guess I led a sheltered life. I do cook a lot, sometimes with a creative flair! and I love garlic shrimp. I’ve always enjoyed Mark Twain, his writings and his personal history. I use needle threaders now. And glad I still can! Singapore is a fabulous place but I doubt I’ll get to see it. Thanks for the amazing pictures. Sandi @St Louis Cruiser I remember not too long ago Ren was in TX battling Ice! Not this trip…. Safe travels to them. @Crazy For Cats Stunning picture of Halifax. Thank you. @marshhawk hope your tight schedules all work out. And Chucks eye improves so he can better manage his next steps. @Vict0riann Yay for you and Pat! And @rafinmd Roy too, what a great plan! And thank you for all your beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and your dedication in sharing them. Awaiting good news about Sam and little Murphy. 🙏 Blessings to all, especially our Cares List. Great to see many happenings to celebrate. Smooth travels to all away, to them and their luggage. Nancy @ottahand7 May the cool logs keep you comfortable. I remember those days well in the NM mountains. But each year it was getting hotter and harder to keep our cabin house cool enough to sleep. And much of the time it was becoming harder to open the windows at night because of smoke. In the hottest weeks we usually had fires near or smoke from far away. I loved our life there but there are many things I don’t miss. I’m right where I belong! Life is good!🌈 May all our air conditioning keep working! Thanks to all the researchers, list keepers, and each one of you for your caring support. Now off to search boxes in the storage room! dfish Posted July 25, 2023 #43 Share Posted July 25, 2023 Good afternoon, everybody. We went up to the public gardens today in Halifax. They were lovely. Then, instead of walking the ocean floor, we walked back to the ship. It will easily be another 10,000 step day. When we were leaving this morning I got pulled over by security and was told to wait there. They shut down the line and rerouted everyone else. Another security officer came over and was talking on the phone about me. I asked if they were taking me to the brig and they just laughed. Turns out the event coordinator wanted to let me know that they had changed the location of our Meet and Greet for the next cruise. All’s well that ends well. sailingdutchy Posted July 25, 2023 #45 Share Posted July 25, 2023 As promised some more pictures of Singapore , this is from our 31 day cruise on the Volendam from Sidney , Australia to Singapore . Approaching Singapore on November 2015 Spending our evening in the Gardens by the Bay , which was all lit up and in the Christmas atmosphere , with Christmas music and beautiful light shows , Next morning after an overnight on board ship ready for a nice walking tour through Chinatown and old Singapore . Going through a number of Temples and churches of different religions all within a mile on the same street This was called the Hawaiian Shirt Tour and I was the only one dressed for the occasion …….. Singapore a very nice and very well organized city but with lots of regulations …. for instance no chewing of gum , no smoking streets , etc , etc A wonderful “ Food Court “ area with dozens and dozens of stalls , just point at the picture , pay and eat . Delicious ! They need lots of air-conditioning ! It is an extremely clean city . One more temple She’s like my Dear Wife , she can do everything ! That’s not me ….. Wonderful walking tour was had by all ! Ready to shove off and we are on our way to Thailand . See you in the next Port ! Have a great day everybody ! Rare tupper10 Posted July 25, 2023 #48 Share Posted July 25, 2023 For anyone interested in a good new novel about the founding of Singapore I would suggest Rachel Heng's The Great Reclamation. I realized that I knew nothing about this area of the world and she weaves a fascinating tale with a fairly accurate history. It would make some great reading for a long cruise. I hope we hear how everyone is doing - I was hoping to see some updates posted today. @dfish The gardens look beautiful. We signed up to do a TA next year and I think @StLouisCruisers is on it as well. My husband is getting to the point where he doesn't want to fly at all - this was the only way I could get him to Europe since we only have to fly one way. I wish VOV would do some more Norway ports then we would just do a RT but it is one area I really want to see so we are doing a Norway cruise before the TA. I hope everyone has a great day. We haven't been outside in days here way too hot to do anything.

I see a trip to my local charity shop soon for a “deposit”. Prayers for all in need. Stay safe and cool today. Katherine Katherine, I hope the PT three times a week helps your DH. The past couple of years, I've weeded a lot of clothes out of the closet that no longer fit, but I kept some of the better ones. I'm glad I did, since I can now get into some of them again. Of course this is at the time cruise lines are going more casual. 4 hours ago, marshhawk said: Good Tuesday Morning Dailyites! Therapy at 10 (regardless of their email) get food, get DH to eye appointment, then get home to work, then grab a Waffle House dinner, and go to the final concert of the Dekalb county Symphony. Tonight is a POPS concert, not classical. The DSO sent me an email that if we were not going to use the tickets to return them, as the concert is sold out. While DH has to be up early tomorrow morning for his MRIs I think that going tonight would perhaps keep his mind off tomorrow's meeting with the doctors. I had to tell my neighbor that I couldn't walk the dog today and tomorrow, so she is coming home early, and had an appointment tomorrow, so she will be home, and that takes some stress off me. Life is stressful enough, but i feel very guilty when I cannot walk the dog. It's not the dogs fault that her mom wont work from home. (when she can) Have a wonderful day, and thanks for the Singapore pictures. @StLouisCruisers I think that I see part of the F1 race track in your pictures. Annie, I hope the PT today helps, and that the eye doctor will be able to give your DH something to clear up the eye infection quickly. Enjoy the concert. JazzyV Posted July 25, 2023 #50 Share Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) Good afternoon. Thanks for the FR/Daily @richwmn, and to all contributors. I appreciate Culinarians. I like to cook, but not for one; I do more if it's a holiday and BFF will be here. I've never had a chili dog. Sometimes at work I had to thread the needle. But taken literally, I can barely do it due to my eye issues. I have a counted cross stitch I'd really like to finish. Famous Twain quote. I like the meal, maybe on the drink and yes to the wine. A big salute to George Stephenson. I haven't been to Singapore. It's currently 80F and sunny here, only to get hotter as the week progresses. The weather people are emphasizing the effects on pets, particularly how hot the sidewalk and asphalt gets. I got my electric bill today. Wow! I have been using AC sparingly, so I think the rates went up a lot. I had an earlier PT today, so I'm just back from that, and a stop at Aldi. The therapist did an assessment today. In some areas I'm a bit stronger. She assessed my back too today. We're going to try to do some things to help my functionality (like bending to empty the dryer, which hurt so much I wanted to cry yesterday), instead of just concentrating on specific muscles. I'm also going to meet with another therapist for pelvic floor therapy, which had been recommended last November. @Crazy For Cats Great shot. Enjoy Halifax and I appreciate the photos. @ottahand7 The tomatoes look great; I didn't plant any this year with my being away for a while. @grapau27 Thanks for the explanations. @StLouisCruisers Thank you for mentioning Hire a Vet Day; very important. Big goings on in the family with the move to Texas for Ren and his DM. Your photos from Singapore are great! @marshhawk I hope your PT and Chuck's eye appointment went well. Enjoy the POPS concert tonight. @Quartzsite Cruiser Nice Singapore photos. @0106 Thanks for putting the quote in context. @Mtn2Sea Great photos of Singapore. @Cruising-along That is odd about the virtual visits. I did a lot of them during the height of the pandemic, on my iPad, and had no trouble (they were through MyChart). @RMLincoln I hope all the plans for the Remembrance go smoothly. @sailingdutchy Thanks for sharing your photos. @dfish That garden looks lovely. I'm avidly following along, as my cruise next year will visit many of the same ports. @cruising sister Hoping to hear more good news about Baby Murphy @luvteaching Thinking of you. @kazu I hope Ivan is doing better. Prayers for the Care List and a Toast to those Celebrating. Edited July 25, 2023 by JazzyV 22
