Why do you assume someone will “test the limits” ? Did you see people doing so at the Palm Beach restaurant you mentioned? I don’t understand how this new dress code is going to bring on mayhem? No, I didn't see anyone testing the limits. But I also wasn't playing Dress Code Warden either. As long as someone doesn't come in and sit down next to me wearing flip flops, bathing suit, and a ball cap, I was not going to notice them unless they really were standing out.

If someone doesn't wear a jacket, you have a choice not to look at him. And the dinner still tastes the same. What a complete waste of time and energy.. Do people really have that much spare time to discuss if others are wearing a jacket or not? Actually it's a pretty good analogy. If someone is sitting in front of me, then I have no choice but to look at him. Do you suggest that I close my eyes? If someone talks loud, the dinner still tastes the same. So should I endure a foul mouthed person next to me because it doesn't make my food taste differently?? 2

Hopefully that approach (not playing DC warden) will extend to your next cruise and you’ll have an enjoyable trip. as for the bathing suit and flip flops senario, that would be solve by the leadership at the restaurant because surely they wouldn’t allow them entry. I have never seen bathing suit and flip flops on SS on dinners. On Oceania and Azamara either. Not sure why people keep mentioning those ridiculous scenarios.

Because they don’t follow the facts, and don’t want the dress code to change—they just make up stuff.

It’s is hard to believe how this topic has gone from “follow the rules or pick another cruise line” to “now that the rules have changed on Nova people are going to ruin the ambiance” to now “there will be bathing suits in the dining room”! There is a small group of insufferable people in this thread that seem to enjoy trying to imagine all the ways other passengers will ruin their experience. All because of a jacket and tie. Would those also be the "rabid complainers" and "pearl clutchers"? Must we now add "insufferable people" to the collection of adjectives? I find those who resort to name calling to be ... well, not insufferable ... but let's just say less than cordial in conversation. That's two (ref post #147).
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted August 22, 2023 #208 Share Posted August 22, 2023 I was just having a conversation with a friend who is planning cruises and looking at several new cruise lines. She has crossed Silversea off her list. Because of the dress code? No, because of the level of abuse on this forum. Not the kind of people she wants to cruise with. Just sayin'...

I recall you mentioning something similar as reason for your break from this group. I’m starting to understand your perspective. I just continue to remind myself that the vocal ones here are a very small percentage of cruisers. Additionally, I have cruised many times and met wonderful people. I can’t recall one bad conversation to date. I’m sure that will continue. 1

Someone even recounted how on the old Crystal when they complained about the pre cruise snafus another poster emailed a crew member she knew warning about the seriously disruptive passengers who were due to board. Nothing approaches that on this board. Wow. I haven’t been over there since I voiced my distaste for losing money with C. Terrible to hear. Just asking, did you explain that message boards are only a teeney % of live cruisers and some people don't even know what Cruise Critic is?......there are many, many nice people who sail on their ships.

She knows that —very well traveled. But when you’re sizing up a cruise line, this is the only evidence you can get. I know that the atmosphere on the Regent forum a few years ago put me off that line.
Rare A Tucson Guy Posted August 22, 2023 Author #213 Share Posted August 22, 2023 Last night in La Dame on the Nova, dress code stated men must wear jackets in La Dame regardless of the dress code for the night. It was 75% full and I saw 2 men not wearing jackets and nobody said anything.
