IndyKid Posted August 28, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2023 We're booked for a week on the Caribbean Princess in December, doing the eastern route. What kind of shows & entertainment are typically offered? Would like to hear from someone who has recently been on the CP, and which ones were their favorites? Also, on a related note, can you get drinks delivered to your seats during the show?
Thrak Posted August 28, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2023 (edited) Just a minor correction. Caribbean Princess is designated as CB. CP was the old Sea Princess) If you go to the Princess site and check the deck plans the ship name the abbreviation is embedded in the URL. For Caribbean Princess it is: https://www.princess.com/ships-and-experience/ships/cb-caribbean-princess/ Entertainment is a mix of Production Shows, Singers, Musicians, etc. You can get drinks delivered to your seat if it works properly... I tend to take a drink with me when I go to the theater. No matter what it is I get it in a Rocks Glass so it's easy to carry and not spill. (I can't carry a Martini glass without slopping it all over the place.) Edited August 28, 2023 by Thrak

The times we have been in the theater for shows have never seen a drink delivered . We either sit way front in the middle or left side by lower stairs so drinks might have been delivered out of our sight. I was playing around once and tried to get something delivered to MDR on deck 5 when it was open for reading or playing games. App said that room wasn’t available for delivery service at that time. That was my only time to try ordering something since Medallions came out.

I used to be able to get drinks from roaming waiters. The only "catch" was if I was in the upper portion my drinks came from Wheelhouse and I wasn't charged as I had the package. If I was in the lower portion of the theater my drinks came from the Casino Bar and those clowns charged me every dang time so I had to go have the charge removed at Guest Services the next day. Thanks for the clarification. If I think I will want a drink for the show I will continue to take a drink with me when I go to the theater.

Rare startedwithamouse Posted August 29, 2023 #12 Share Posted August 29, 2023 They were all sea days or days where we left port early. Showtime was 730 and 930. Fantastic Journey Born to be Wild Broadway Ballroom Bravo

And yes, straight up, we tell them to keep the martini glasses! If we're on Discovery, we go through Take 5 on the way to the show, usually never crowded. Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted September 17, 2023 #14 Share Posted September 17, 2023 We typically don't go in for any magicians that sign on...but here's a funny story: A magician was working on a cruise ship. Since the audience was different each week, the magician did the same tricks over and over again. There was only one problem: The captain's parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the Magician did every trick. Once he understood, he started shouting in the middle of the show, "Look, it's not the same hat!" or, "Look, he's hiding the flowers under the table!" Or "Hey, why are all the cards the ace of spades?" The magician was furious but couldn't do anything. It was, after all, the Captain's parrot. Then one stormy night on the Pacific, the ship unfortunately sank. The magician luckily found himself on a piece of wood floating in the middle of the sea, as fate would have it ... With the parrot. They stared at each other with hatred, but did not utter a word. This went on for a day... And then 2 days. And then 3 days. Finally on the 4th day, the parrot could not hold back any longer and said... "Okay, I give up. Where's the ship?"

Rare cr8tiv1 Posted September 18, 2023 #17 Share Posted September 18, 2023 On a 7 day cruise, you will have 2 production shows. Three if you are lucky (happened on the Emerald). Unfortunately, the older the ship the less spectacular. Princess isn't investing show time money into the Grand Class ships. All new productions go the the Royal Class ships (ref: Entertainment Director).

Even though we've only been sailing Royal class ships for the past 11 cruises, we'll be looking forward to returning back to the older production shows this fall. We've seen the newer shows so many times that, as good as they are, we're looking forward to seeing the older ones again.

I was on the Island this summer in Norway/Greenland/Iceland and saw "The Secret Silk", "On the Bayou", "So You Wanna Dance?", and "Encore". I absolutely HATED "Secret Silk", but did enjoy the other production shows, although "Encore" is very much a showcase for the mezzo soprano, Shelly Rivers. DO NOT MISS any of the following singers if they are to perform on future cruises. They were all fantastic. Antonio Salci (pianist more than singer, but he's great!) Crystal Cimagalia (who does a "Tribute to Celine Dion" that is enjoyable even to someone who's kind of lukewarm on Celine) Yaniv Zarif (specializes in Broadway/West End show tunes, but is very good) Janine Johnson (who is simply OUTSTANDING, covering such R&B divas as Aretha, Tina, and Chaka, with a little Donna Summer, Shirley Bassey, and Amy Winehouse mixed in). She may be from London by way of Jamaica, but you'd swear she was born and raised somewhere in the South.

If you are ever on the Coral Princess, go see "On The Bayou" again. It is performed on the turning stage which I heard was removed from the Island.
capriccio Posted September 18, 2023 #21 Share Posted September 18, 2023 In addition to the production shows and comedians in the main theater as already mentioned, there will be guest musicians (individuals/groups). Check the daily events listings in the app or in the hard copy Daily Events Listing (request it be delivered each evening by your steward). I haven't seen it on an "in the round" setting, but even on a regular proscenium stage, it was staged very well using sets that rolled in from the wings or rose from the floor of the stage. The costumes were very well done also.
dsotm73 Posted September 18, 2023 #25 Share Posted September 18, 2023 Wife really loves the comedians. How many comedian nights are there on a typical 7-day? App is showing one comedian with five shows on two days, nothing on the other five nights.
