dlwfarm Posted August 29, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2023 I have a flight at 12.00, noon, in london. We will be getting off a Cunard cruise and they say the earliest flight should be 1.30 pm. Does it take a long time to debark from Cunard? Thanks

Thanks You don't say what airport or what day of the week you are talking about. and what grade you are flying in...it matters greatly in timing.... I think which ever though you may be pushing it. By the time self disembarking begins at 7.30am IF the ship is on time and all of the customs officers show up and IF your car/taxi is there on time, and if its Heathrow you are heading to, which is about 1.5 hours, you could be talking about a 10am arrival in the earliest at the airport IF everything has run to plan. With the lines at the airport and security, I think its a bit close. If you want to supply more details Im sure you will get someone here who can give you an accurate timing.
Island2Dweller Posted August 30, 2023 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2023 As above - more details please. Assuming you meant Heathrow, that's over 60 miles from Southampton on roads that can be congested. Although most long haul flights use Heathrow, you should be aware that London has six airports, and four of them have some long haul flights

Totally agree, except to say usually there are no customs officers at Southampton, so there is no hold up there. Over the years I have never seen one, but that is not to say they can’t suddenly appear, and, inevitably, if you are in a hurry, it is you that gets stopped. Again, immigration is invariably done on the ship, except once this summer, they had a blitz on all the ships in Southampton on a particular day. Allow longer. Rare Pushpit Posted August 30, 2023 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2023 And to pile in a little, take LHR Terminal 5, used by BA - there is something called conformance there, which means you have to get to the scan point at security at least 35 minutes to departure, and if you have bags, they need to be in the system at 45 minutes to departure (there are self service machines there so queuing doesn't really happen). So if it was T5 and like to live a little dangerously then 1 hour for check-in would just about be OK if you also did Online Check-in, 75 minutes is more comfortable. Mayflower to T5 is 70 to 75 miles, there are some route options, and you're looking at 90 minutes or so for the road trip. So if you can self-disembark and be out at 07:30 you should be OK and have some spare time. But as you can see the details matter greatly here. Including day of the week, and whether it's a school day or not. And just once in a while Cunard arrives later into Southampton than planned.

And, just once in a while, or a little more often, there is a major problem on the M3, not least on the (not very) smart section.
