Win @ Bingo get a free cruise

When we were on the Legend last week they ran a Bingo on the final day and the prize was a free cruise for 2 for 7 days and they told everyone that only 1 prize could be giving away. However you would have guessed it 2 people called bingo on the same number. So what they had to do is have a tie breaker. Why couldn't Carnival just give away a cruise to each winner I'm sure it wouldn't be a big thing to them, I know that you might have more then 1 winner but not all the time I thought it was pretty cheap on Carnival I felt sorry for the young couple who lost out on the free cruise. I think it was a great prize they most likely got most of the money back on the selling of the bingo tickets

on all the bingo games I played for that free cruise it was always only one person and always more then one person seemed to win.

But carnival does this for every cruise every week. I dont think it will kill them financially to give all the winners the cruise But what happens when 5 people win....

I agree. Although it is unfortuante, Carnival can't set a presendance of giving away mulitple cruises. I live near the largest casino in the world. I once went to a bingo with my wife and had a bing0 for 1,099.00. There was 52 winners. I got like 20.00. Depending on how the numbers are called, they would have many winners. if carnvial gave it the the other couple they would have to give it to the five if they won.

Yep all of the cruises we have been on there seems to be a couple of BINGOS called that last game and yes they all come down to picking a ball out of the hopper. If I recall this is explained at the start of the BINGO game. Remember that they give 1 cruise out on each and every ship that is sailing at any given time. That is a lot ships every week, so yes they do in fact giveMORE THAN ONE.

I really don't think it would be financially feasible for Carnival to guarantee a cruise to everyone involved in a winning tie on this game on every sailing of every ship they have, which is likely the reason they have "1 winner" rule in the first place.

The rules are the rules and they are made clear at the outset, so I don't see how the cruiseline has wronged anyone here. When you purchase your bingo card, you are acknowledging that you know the rules and accept such an outcome. While I'm sure it is disappointing to be on the losing end of a tiebreaker, that is the chance you take when you play this game. That's why they call it gambling... some win, some don't.

Several cruises ago a friend sailing with us got bingo on the free cruise game along with two other people. They brought them all up on stage and drew bingo balls to determine the winner. Highest number won and needless to say our friend did not win with B7. He did get that lovely parting gift bottle of champagne for his efforts.

Is EVERYTHING included on this "FREE" cruise? Meaning... My dh rec'd a buy one get one free for an accident on our last cruise. We had to call a special number to set up our "free" cruise. We had to pay for the ship and port fee's also I don't think it was a very good offer. We have paid 880 total for our room - inside not ocean view or balcony. We aren't getting the chance of an upgrade. We can however, choose to upgrade for an additional fee. Not thinking that the buy one get one was such a good deal here!

Why does there always seem to be a 'catch'? It is a shame Carnival can't award a cruise to every winner if that is the prize being played for. Whether there is one winner or several, I don't think this is unreasonable. I have read where the actual cruise rate each person pays actually is only actually around 78% of the amount each person will ACTUALLY spend, total, on their selected cruise ship. If that is true, looks like Carnival has lots to gain in the long run.....especially the Goodwill of honoring each lucky winner. We are gambling that we win the cruise, Carnival should honor those winners. How about if we can get a refund on our bingo charges if we don't win?

all port fees and govenrment taxes must be paid by the winner.

On the Liberty for the free cruise it was for a 6A cabin. if you wanted another cabin you had to pay the going rate to upgrade. (or take the $2,000 in cash)

When i read that I wondered why anyone would take the free cruise instead. take the cash and book your own cruise. I have never paid that kind of money even for a balcony cabin with my airfair included)

Bingo is a highly profitable source of income for Carnival. A good compromise would be to offer the one cruise, but with runner-up prizes that are better than a $4 bottle of champagne. (say $100 off coupons for the next cruise)

The limitation was disclosed before they began the game, so what's the problem?

Yeah, I could see if they said "bingo wins a free cruise" and then tried to renege after two got bingo at the same time, that would be a little deceptive. But if they announced in advance that only one wins, then why is anyone complaining? If I wasn't satisfied with those rules, I'd exercise my right as a consumer to decline to play the game and spend my money at the bar or somewhere else.

No matter what they do, someone will find a way to be unhappy about it.

That is a good idea. Or - $100 ship credit on your next cruise. Remember - you are going to SPEND the money on CCL products. They would not be losing on this. :)

I have not played free cruise BINGO in a while. You have persuaded me to do so on the Elation!

Sorry for the losing couple, but the statement was made, 1 cruise for 2. They did a tiebreaker and one cruise was given away. I have absolutely no problem with that. The couple that lost was in the same category as all the other people who lost. Should they have gotten cruises too, because they didn't win, but came close?

This thread sort of reminds me of the new policy in some schools not to play kickball because someone may lose, and that would be bad for their self-esteem. Sorry, life is full of winning and losing.

OK. Enough flaming!! Here's another solution: Have each player put his name and cabin number on the back of his first (or second or third, etc) bingo card played and put them in a hat (a big one, I might add). Draw ONE card and that winner WILL win the cruise. Simple, decisive, and very lucky for the one winner that is drawn. Oh, and the winner must be present at the end of the last game in order to claim the prize by presenting the respective sign and sail card.:)

Sorry, I don't see an analogy with depriving children of necessary competitive sports. Some will win and some will loose - - the entire team! How would it be if the teacher tells the children before they begin the game that from the winning team, only one child will be picked to be the real winner. That would go over like a wet noodle.

I think the horse is dead!

I'll just pay my money, play bingo and not expect to win. I'm still looking forward to it, though!!:D

I don't know how they play things up in Virginia, but in most places there is only one winner. Give me a break....why not just skip the bingo and give everybody that shows up a free cruise!

If there are two winners could they agree to take the cash and split it? I'm with Serene56 I'd take the money in a heartbeat. $2000 could buy me a very nice cruise. In fact I'd be tickled pink to split the $2000 with someone.

The profit Carnival makes on Bingo has to be enormous. I believe that they should take the risk of more than one bingo on the cruise game. I do not play because I have made a rough estimate of the number of people playing and figured that Carnival makes $thousands per session.

If you do play, and want to win a cruise, would the odds not be much more in your favor on a smaller ship with less players? I assume the cards cost the same and the payout is the same. Maybe not.

Serene56,

As ususal, you're right on!

The 2K would definately pay for an 8E balcony on Liberty for two and I'm sure it would cover a lower category balcony with airfare. I'd take the cash option in a heartbeat!
