grapau27 Posted September 28, 2023 #5 Share Posted September 28, 2023 (edited) Thank you for today's daily reports. Beer day is good. Pass on good neighbour and today's food and drink. We have been to Bergen a couple of times on cruises. It was the first port in June on our Norwegian Fjords cruise but it was on a Sunday and most things were closed and there was no shuttles from the ship. I hope everyone is safe and well. Rare puppycanducruise Posted September 28, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Good morning and thanks for the Report. It's still dark, but Bertie is wanting to go for his walk, he'll have to wait a few more minutes. Hubby would like "drink beer day", I'll pass and wait for "drink wine day". I try and be a good neighbour. Public lands are important and a benefit for us all. I like the quote. The meal sounds good. I think I'll save the drink until December. I'm sure I'll like the wine. We've been to Bergen a couple of times, loved it. I'm a bit of a Beatles fan. Prayers for everyone. Have a good day. Stay safe. 28
StLouisCruisers Posted September 28, 2023 #7 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Good morning friends! It is 60F here with a high expected today of 78 with sun/clouds mixed. Thank you Rich @richwmn for our Daily and Fleet Report for Thursday. Our days today are varied. Beer is fine but I rarely touch it. A sip here and there. 🍺 DH had a long career at a major brewery so I'm thankful for that. Good neighbors can really make life better so I appreciate mine, or at least most of them. This country has a lot of outstanding public lands which is great but I think we're a little late celebrating it (9/23). The quote is an interesting take on books.📚 I might like the Swedish meatballs, probably wouldn't like the Yule Nog, and would love to try the Sauvignon Blanc.🥂 The Beatles were my faves so I am happy about the success of their songs. Thank you Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepard for your great reports each day. Prayers today for all on our Care list. First to Steve and Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser as he undergoes his shunt procedure today. Special prayers to Terry @smitty34877 and family and dear Tana, to Baby Murphy's family, my DB with his pulmonary fibrosis and my friend's DB with his bile duct cancer. Three cheers to the Celebration list people especially those on a cruise or preparing for one. 🚢🎉 Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for the Care and Celebration lists! The port today is Bergen, Norway, a very enjoyable spot on a Norway cruise. Lots to see and do there. It was our port on the Daily once before on July 9, 2021 so it's been a while! We've spent time there on 4 different cruises and most of the time it was NOT raining! I'll post my photos in a bit, and will also post Lenda's pictures as she asked. Here is the link to the July 9 Daily for your convenience. Hope today is a successful day for us all. Stay safe and well! We went to Bergen on 4 of our cruises, and it seems to be a popular stop for most Norway cruises. We do love Norway! I've heard it rains there a lot but we've managed to see it in sunshine a few times. I think that if you are there for the first time, go up Mt. Floyen on the funicular (called Floibanen) and see the fish market right there on the waterfront. You don't have to take a ship's tour, just head for the hillside. This is what the building looks like where you get your tickets and go up in the funicular. The wait for the car to take you up. A different view from the top, unlike the other ones shown already. We enjoy walking around that little park and lake shown in the picture. There's really a lot to see in Bergen besides the funicular and fish market. Our first trip to Bergen was on Crown Princess in 2013. The second time was in 2015 on Caribbean Princess and that is when these photos were taken. I saw a Holland America ship while up on the mountainside and zoomed in to take this photo of the Ryndam. We had just taken our first HAL cruise in October 2014 and loved it enough to start booking HAL cruises. We had already fully booked 2015 on Princess so our second cruise on HAL was in 2016 but you can tell I was interested enough to take a photo of a HAL ship this day. Our relationship with Holland America has worked out well for us because we enjoy the many interesting ports of call they go to. Princess usually isn't as adventurous. Our third and fourth time in Bergen was on Prinsendam in 2016 and 2017. On our first visit to Norway in 2013 we along with friends on the ship took a walk through some beautiful park-like areas on the slopes of the hills above Bergen. A closer view of the harbor from our hike. Did any of you notice this stairway to the Christmas Shop located on the Bryggen side of the harbor? Makes me dizzy to even look at it. Also a lot of people enjoy the sunshine (when they can get it) at these cafes lining the harbor. One time we hiked up a hill of steps to an interesting church so these photos are for fans of churches like @HAL4NOW. If you turn your back on the funicular and fish market you may notice a huge church up on a hillside. Like this: You can start to see the steps. Turn around. This is where you started at, down at the bottom of this hill. Name of the church - Johanneskirken or St. James Church I thought the ceiling was unique and very Norwegian. Hoping to go back to Norway sometime soon.🤞 27
Rare rafinmd Posted September 28, 2023 #8 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann. Happy Thursday. I'll pass on the beer but celebrate Public Lands and Good Neighbors. I like the Green quote. I've been to Bergen just once, Prinsendam in 2011. Hey Jude is certainly worthy of celebration. The meatballs sound interesting. My alternative is Spaghetti Pomodoro, Lamb Cutlets, and Pistachio Gelato as I enjoyed in MS Oosterdam Canaletto September 28, 2017 as a guest of @Copper10-8. Virtually finished with my packing and plan to leave soon. Roy

StLouisCruisers Posted September 28, 2023 #10 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Here are Lenda's @Quartzsite Cruiser photos which she posted on July 9, 2021. We have been to Bergen three times. The first was in 2005 on the Marco Polo, and twice on the Prinsendam, in 2011 and 2016. We've been there in rain, clouds and sunshine, and once all on the same day. We have taken the funicular, the little tourist train, the Ho-Ho and the city bus, in addition to walking around the harbor. I enjoy walking through the fish market, but with so many pictures of the market, I won't add my pictures. We enjoyed looking at all the items for sale, but did not buy anything as they were so expensive. And in Texas and Arizona, we don't need wool sweaters. The one exception was a couple of embroidered t-shirts we got from the street market across from the fish market. They were reasonably priced. 👋 On one of our later visits, we went in the Bergenhus Fortress, which was undergoing some maintenance. We were glad we rode the funicular in 2005 when the lines were not long. Later on the little tourist train, we stopped on one of the bridges the funicular goes under for a view of the car and the town. These are pictures from our tourist train, Ho-Ho and city bus rides, which take you to different parts of the town. On the Ho-Ho we stopped at the aquarium, which was nice, but not as nice as the one in Alesund. For the garden club As we were leaving for the next port, we had a stowaway. When I was going through my pictures of Bergen, I had a feeling I was missing some. I had forgotten that we'd been in Bergen in 2009 on the Tahitian Princess. So I'll add a few more pictures. In addition to fish, they also sell fruits, vegetables, other food stuff, t-shirts and other mementos of Bergen. Some of the other market stalls. For some reason the produce in other countries always looks better. Back at the dock, two ships that supply off shore rigs were in port for the day. The was the view of Bergen as the ship sailed. It was such a pretty, sunny day, the Norwegian Navy decided to come out to play. Lenda 28
Rare kazu Posted September 28, 2023 #11 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Thanks for our Thursday Daily, Rich. And thanks to Dixie, Debbie, Ann & Vanessa. Great collection of days. I appreciate public lands and will gladly celebrate good neighbours and being a good neighbour. I am truly blessed with the wonderful neighbours I have. Yay on another white wine. Sadly today’s port did not get visited when I had to cancel my May cruise. Green’s quote is so true. Busy morning today - lawyer’s for the new will and then hair. Now that I figured out how to open the new carry on flat, I might try to put some stuff in it this afternoon 😂 Prayers for those on the Care list, those suffering losses, health issues, worries and those that need them. 🙏 Cheers to those celebrating & cruising 🥂 Have a good Thursday, all 27

Quartzsite Cruiser Posted September 28, 2023 #13 Share Posted September 28, 2023 A very early good morning from a still dark central Texas. It is 73F and feels like 73F at 6 am. The high should be in the mid 90s here and in Dallas. I managed to get some sleep and fortunately was able to get to sleep earlier than normal since I woke up too early again. I used to drink beer, but in the past few years, it and I don't always get along. I try to be a good neighbor. I'll celebrate our public lands, and hope they can remain as pristine places to enjoy. The quote is interesting, especially to this book lover. I've had Swedish meatballs in the past and enjoyed them. In fact, they are the only meatballs I've every liked. We'll pass on the drink and the wine. As you can see in the above post from Sandi @StLouisCruisers we've been to Bergen. Sandi, thank you for reposting my pictures since I wasn't sure if I'd be up this early. Thank you for the good wishes for today. The Beatles were and still are my favorite group, so today in history is a good one. @rafinmd Roy, good wishes for safe travels today, and Bon Voyage tomorrow. @kazu Jacqui, I hope all goes well at the lawyer's office today. Rare Denise T Posted September 28, 2023 #15 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Happy Thursday. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports. Chilly morning today. No rain expected. Will be working from home. Have to catch up with work as my day ended early yesterday with me getting ill. Not sure what happened. Could have been a virus, my gall bladder acting up or food poisoning. Today, I am feeling somewhat better but will stick to a bland diet for the next few days. I want to make sure I am well enough for my trip to Colorado in a couple of weeks. The meal and drink of the day sound delicious. Thinking of all on the care list. Celebrating with all who are celebrating. Have a safe and healthy day. 28
cat shepard Posted September 28, 2023 #16 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Thank you for today’s R & D, Rich! Another wild night of storms & rains & a very cloudy morning. They are moving fast, so not sure what the day will bring. Vanessa, thank you for taking such great care of the lists. I hope you start to feel better, soon. Just a normal Thursday for me - gym, Bindi walks, chores. Lots of pollen on the car, so I may at least try to rinse it off. I am ready to start reorganizing the garage, so if not too hot & humid - I will at least start. Prayers for all who need our support. @smitty34877 Terry, keeping you, Tana & your families in my prayers. Cheers for all who are celebrating. I hope each of us finds at least one reason to smile today! ********** South Sea Sauvignon Blanc 2022 I used the 2022 vintage info of this New Zealand SB, since it might be easier to find. Consumers give all the vintages a very good - excellent rating. I is widely available with prices starting at $11.99. Distributor notes Stewart Island is New Zealand’s third largest and southern most island, lying at the edge of the Southern Ocean. Famed for its sunsets and Aurora Australis, the southern lights, it is also home to the South Sea Hotel, a local landmark. They’ve taken all of these elements to craft this left of center South Sea Sauvignon Blanc with nice intensity of lime and pineapple. The palate has similar vibrant characteristics with wonderful integrated minerality, fresh acidity and a long lingering finish. This all makes it a perfect pair for shellfish and anything really from the sea. 24 10

Heartgrove Posted September 28, 2023 #22 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Thank you Rich, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work. And thank you everyone for being here! We have been to Bergen as a side trip when we were on our Baltic cruise in 2017. Our hotel was along the Bryggen in a former Hanseatic warehouse. Very interesting as one of the original wooden hoists was still in the middle of the bathroom! Bergen is the rainiest city in Norway so we had rain two of three days. Thankfully on the semi-dry day we did our version of Norway in a Nutshell beginning with the Fast Boat to Flam, ferry to Gudvangen, local bus to Voss, and train back to Bergen. Stopped for dinner in Voss at the genteel Fleischer's Hotel. Whenever we make a trip to Ikea, I always have the Swedish meatballs in the restaurant! The Beatles' "Hey Jude" was popular when I was a Senior in high school. One of our "pranks" was played at our HS hangout. On Friday and Saturday it would close at 11 pm. Someone would always put a quarter in the jukebox to play "Hey Jude" (7 minutes 11 seconds) about two minutes before the owner closed for the night. Many times they would need to pull the plug! Lights out - and out the door for us. Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need. - Jack

RMLincoln Posted September 28, 2023 #24 Share Posted September 28, 2023 @Quartzsite Cruiser prayers for Amazing! Safe travels. @rafinmd Roy Safe travels. I’m guessing you’re taking the train to NY/Brooklyn? Enjoy the ride! Great pix of Bergen. We took a train there from Oslo to board Hurtigruten Midnatsol for the Norway coast cruise, all the way up to the Russian border and back. Bergen was picturesque but drizzly. Norway is a fabulous place to visit. Paul McCartney wrote Hey Jude for John Lennon’s son. @lindaler We loved Tales of the South Pacific. DH says his favorite. Hard for me to pick a favorite cruise trip. Immerse yourself in its beauty and cultural diversity and richness! @ottahand7 Glad you’re back ok Nancy. Enjoy those crabcakes!! We made connections yesterday with the moving facilitator from the local retirement community that is under same corporate as our NJ community. She will send us names of realtors and a moving company. We’ll interview them and pick. The NJ moving facilitator has not responded to me, maybe out this week? Arrgh. But we got final editorial comments on the trust done, should be ready to sign Monday. DH has almost all the paperwork for our Resident Profile scanned into electronic form; we’ll send by email and do a zoom call, don’t know yet when. Made the decision to fly to granddaughter’s wedding in TX which is Dec 16. Can’t face 3 1/2 days drive each way at this point. Got flights using Philadelphia! It’s about 2hrs +traffic allowance from either here MD or new place northern NJ. This way it won’t matter where we’re living. But we’re guessing we’ll move end of Nov shortly after we “take possession” of new place on Nov 21. It’s too expensive doubling up so the sooner we can get out and get our condo on the market the better. I got rental car and hotel reservations in San Antonio. Done. Have a plan. Moving forward. Tomorrow son and DIL are coming up from NC by train for the weekend. DH has financial stuff to work on with his son… I’ll take DIL to our storage room and start sorting out what I can get rid of, what must go, and the stuff that needs a look. Too much stuff! We’ll meet them downtown at Union Station. It’s so easy from here by Metro compared to how it will be in the next place… but we’ll learn. Today I need to get groceries and make a Key Lime pie for tomorrow - it’s the easiest! And get some laundry done. Blessings all! Hugs and cheers! Safe travels to all away. And thanks all for being here. Maureen
Rare rafinmd Posted September 28, 2023 #25 Share Posted September 28, 2023 Sort of on the way. I got out of the house early but realized there were some backup copies of reservations I had not printed so I just got off the copier in the fire house . Checked train status and it is showing on time. I plan to leave the fire house soon to allow plenty of time for traffic delays. Roy
