So I’m pretty useless when it comes to recommending restaurants in the area. Sorry for not having better news. Ok, By the way, we'll be on Montgomery on February 6. Although if you know of good restaurants even if you've never been there, it would be more than we know now.
Rare Ken the cruiser Posted October 26, 2023 Author #254 Share Posted October 26, 2023 After a tasty lunch up at the buffet after our excursion, we went to listen to David Wiemers’ third lecture about his time with the Walt Disney Company, which was quite interesting. Then after dinner, we went to watch a new comedian, Then it was off to a packed Explorers Lounge to watch the Marriage Match game show. If this gives you any hint on the average age of the guests on this cruise, the newlyweds on the left have been married for 22 years! 😂 2

caribill Posted October 26, 2023 #258 Share Posted October 26, 2023 One thing new, at least to us. Instead of elites filling out a card to select canapés for formal evenings, you have to now call room service to request the only choice which is pralines (which are really 2 chocolate candies and 2 white chocolate candies). The only way to know to do this is a single line on a sheet with a list of elite information which covers topics from the nightly elite/platinum/suite lounge to the wine tasting event. No ordering card in the cabin.

Rare Ken the cruiser Posted October 26, 2023 Author #260 Share Posted October 26, 2023 We have arrived in Newport, Rhode Island! We’re sharing the port with the Silversea Silver Shadow today. Did I mention this is a tender port. We even have a little friend admiring our view! 😂 Our current location

Our steward was the one who told us about the new daily canapé rules, which he so kindly placed a standing daily order for us with RS. But there was no mention of any wine tasting event on our Platinum perks list we got. If I might ask, when and where is it on this cruise? Update: I just called Guest Services and they said it’s on Oct 28 at 2 pm in the Island dining room. I also asked them if they might send us the Suite perk list just in case we might be missing out on some other fun things. Thanks for the heads up! arizonaperson Posted October 26, 2023 #262 Share Posted October 26, 2023 @Ken the cruiser I love reading your live from. I’ve never been in a suite, but I thought the wine tasting that was complementary was for elites, but sounds like it is also for full suite guests too. Enjoy, I tried it once. On the bright side after this cruise, we will be Elite! 😁

Please report back if you can. We have a B2B next month and I’ll be Platinum on the first cruise and Elite on the second cruise. My plan is to hold out on doing laundry until the 2nd cruise and hopefully get it done for free. Also want the mini-bar set up for cruise #2 as we don’t have Plus/Premier on #2. avonlady6390 Posted October 26, 2023 #266 Share Posted October 26, 2023 You should automatically be elite for second cruise I had the same thing happen to me on a back to back if not I would go to GS also your app should say elite for second cruise for the mini bar you might want to mention to your steward as well.

What an interesting excursion! It was quite fascinating to see some of the elegant mansions found in and around Newport, many of which evolved from the Gilded Age from 1870 through 1900 and beyond! First, we tendered over, which was quite painless as we had our morning excursion where we met in the theater. Along the way we saw a greeting committee of cormorants. Once onshore, we all met up with our tour guide who then mentioned we were going to go on the cruise around the bay first. So once we got settled on the “yacht”, we were off! One of the first places we cruised by was the Newport Yacht Club, whose membership the first year is $200,000! 😂 Then we passed by a beach loaded with Canadian geese. This was Jackie O’s childhood doll house that had an elevator added when her dog got too old to walk up the steps! 😂 The main house was a little larger! Then we headed back for our bus tour to drive around to look at some homes. and sheep! and donkeys and maybe even a llama if you look hard enough. and Canadian geese looking for tasty things to eat in the grass. and horses! Now, back to the mansions! 😁 and quaint homes on the bay with gorgeous views, to include one with the only very elusive Newport pigeon we saw all day, sitting there admiring the view too! 😂 This if I remember correctly is Jay Leno’s home. Then it was time to head back to the ship, to include saying goodbye to the port guard! 😂 The greatest part of the excursion was the awesome day we got to spend both on the yacht as well as sightseeing through town! 😁 Edited October 26, 2023 by Ken the cruiser

We will actually make Elite when we finish the 5-day Caribbean cruise immediately following this cruise. However, I would imagine you should be able to go to Guest Services once you start your second leg of your B2B to get your shipboard account upgraded with your Elite status. But that of course is just a guess.

Not even a welcome packet at the end of her cruise.
Rare Ken the cruiser Posted October 26, 2023 Author #271 Share Posted October 26, 2023 Thanks everyone for keeping me straight. I also just checked and the wine tasting is indeed only for Elites. No problem. I’ll go to it when we get on the Sapphire in January for our 30-day Antarctica cruise. 😁

Rare Ken the cruiser Posted October 27, 2023 Author #274 Share Posted October 27, 2023 (edited) The evening entertainment for us tonight after another tasty dinner in the a reserve dining room included listening to a singer, Crystal Cimaglia, doing a tribute to Celine Dion. Then we were off to watch tonight’s game show, HollyWould U?, in the Explorers Lounge. Edited October 27, 2023 by Ken the cruiser
