kelkel2 Posted October 18, 2023 #203 Share Posted October 18, 2023 My biggest Ick is the steward asking what service you prefer but not honoring it. And honestly, we were in a suite and pay quite a bit more for gratuities and I just don’t think it’s that much to ask. If you’re not going to honor it, don’t ask.

What do you mean by you pay quite a more tips for being in a suite? Are you refering to the amount over and above the regular amount? Suite tips are only $2pp more a day than if you stay in a regular cabin.

I find more folks playing badly (often because they are HAMMERED) in the Carnival casinos than elsewhere. There are certainly atrocious players on land, too, but with many more available tables in land casinos, the chance of being stuck with one (or more) of them is lower. It’s because people who wouldn’t normally go to a casino are walking past it all day and decide…what the heck? And they go to blackjack because they think all they have to do is count to 21. If I play I watch the people at the table first. See what they do when a bust card comes up before I sit down. Or just go to a $25 table. They won’t be there.

Rare sprint180 Posted October 19, 2023 #210 Share Posted October 19, 2023 That they don't enforce their rules. Like what you are supposed to wear in the main dining room. If you're not going to enforce the rules, don't have them!

Can’t really complain about someone playing on the lowest minimum wager table and not playing by “what the books says.” Move up to $25 table and then things change a bit.

No sleeveless shirts (for men), no cut-offs, no gym shorts, no t-shirts. I agree with the first one. Most guys on cruise ships wearing sleeveless shirts just shouldn't. The others -- well I probably don't really pay enough attention to take note, but yeah they shouldn't be worn in the MDR. Probably because they’re pretty drunk.,.
Drew B 58 Posted October 19, 2023 #214 Share Posted October 19, 2023 On my last cruise, I had a $70 bet. I had a pair of 8s against a dealer 4. I split, of course, and got a 3. So I doubled and got an 8 for a 19. Next card was another 8, so I split again. I got a face on the first one for an 18 and a 2 on the second. I doubled and got a ten for a 20. So I now had an 18, a 19, and a 20, and I had $350 up. The guy two after me decided to split his tens (!) and got two more tens for two 20s. The dealer had a face underneath his 4 and drew a 7, giving him 21. We all lost (and I lost a ton), when we all would have won if the guy had just stayed…. So he cost me $700! Those hands are literally the difference between leaving the cruise a winner and leaving a loser…

They look for a relatively slow pace and relatively low minimum table to hang out and get drunk 😉

The servers don't really enforce that you must be actively playing to order with DOU. The credit for the price of the drink (which zeroes out your receipt) comes up automatically when they key in your order at the casino bar, and they're going so fast it's not like they stop to think, "Oh, @mamiamjo wasn't actively playing, so I have to charge for that drink." If they know you're tipping for each drink, they're even more likely to look the other way. They'll take your order anytime they see you in the casino even if you're not at a table or slot machine.

Anytime I ordered ice cream, it would be room temperature soup by the time they got around to giving it to me. Since the pandemic, there have been far less showtimes. With the extremely terrible service that started in January 2022 on multiple ships(Freedom 1/15/22, Radiance 8/29/22, Valor 11/28/22, Glory 2/5/23), I decided that I would no longer go to the dining room except for the strawberry soup. I would leave after eating the soup. My next cruise is 11/26/23. Before I had a chance to execute that plan, they changed the menu and removed the strawberry soup. There aren't enough things on the new menu that I am willing to eat that would make it worthwhile to deal with the crappy service. Please feel free to add Spirit from the second through the third week of October to your list of atrocious service. We were on that ship for a very long 14 days. The MDR was a joke.
