Rare LACruiser88 Posted November 22, 2023 Author #277 Share Posted November 22, 2023 Today we had an amazing journey below the city of Naples. Debbie didn't know how much exercise she was going to get! 2,800 years ago, the Greeks started an underground aqueduct from a river on Mt Vesuvius to the city. The aqueduct was eventually finished by the Romans. During WWII, a majority of the city took refuge in the empty aqueduct for six months to escape the allied bombings. We climbed 82 feet down a narrow stone staircase to reach the aqueduct. There are many shafts in the ceilings that were used to reach the water from above. Toilet stalls built during WWII Well opening in the ceiling Climbing through the empty caverns reminded us of climbing inside the Great Pyramids in Egypt many years ago. And, Debbie was not too happy for the climb back up to street level. To regain our strength, we indulged in pizza and vino!

Rare LACruiser88 Posted November 22, 2023 Author #281 Share Posted November 22, 2023 (edited) Tonight we dined at "The Catch" for our second time. It did not dissapoint. We each had the Salad Nicoise with Seared Tuna. It was delicious and huge. The presentation gets an A+! Our second course was Steamed Mussels in a White Wine and Cream Sauce. Wow! They were fantastic and the sauce was spectacular. For our main course, we repeated the same dish we had on our first visit, Grilled Swordfish with a Cauliflower and Mustard Puree. As good as it was on our previous visit, we skipped dessert. And for @c-boy, this was accompanied by a Silverado Cabernet Sauvignon. Rare JGmf Posted November 23, 2023 #283 Share Posted November 23, 2023 Thanks for sharing those photos... Life or death during WW2, yes, but no way, never, ever, no...not for a casual tour. Way too tight and claustrophobic. See you up top! 5

We have danced a few times to the band in the Piazza, they are quite good. There is also a very good acoustic guitarist/singer onboard.

Rare LACruiser88 Posted November 23, 2023 Author #292 Share Posted November 23, 2023 Today we took a shuttle bus from the cruise terminal right to the train station, 6€ pp. This is the first time we have seen this offered. We usually take the free ship shuttle to the port entrance and then walk to the train station. For as many times that we have been to Rome, it is still a very special place. We walked, we shopped, we had lunch, and took the train back home. They were putting up a Christmas tree in St. Peter's Square.
shellbeachjim Posted November 23, 2023 #293 Share Posted November 23, 2023 A couple of pictures from our balcony this evening. In front of us is the Oceania Riviera and across the channel is the Island Princess. Also, the sunset was just beautiful today.
Rare Kmkub Posted November 23, 2023 #294 Share Posted November 23, 2023 We are on board! The traditional dining reservation we've had showing for 20 months got lost in the last five days. Grrrr. It won't spoil our time but it is disappointing.
