Rare Jean C Posted December 12, 2023 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2023 That's a real shame, disappointing for those for whom it would have been the highlight 🙁
Cruise ship fan Posted December 12, 2023 #3 Share Posted December 12, 2023 (edited) Current Marine Data | Oceanweather Inc. Wouldn't have thought it would have slowed her down that much. Think I have only been on a handful of cruises that had seas under 5m (guess I'm the lucky or unlucky one depending on opinions) and they were all out of the US. My partner and I are going on her very first cruise next month, hoping I don't bring my luck and she gets a smooth cruise. Bumping around doesn't bother me but the smoother it is for her the better. Rare arxcards Posted December 12, 2023 #4 Share Posted December 12, 2023 It isn't about being bumpy or slowing her down. Typically if the seas are over 3 metres or the wind is excessive, it is considered unsafe to navigate in/out of the sounds. Nice to be rocked to sleep, but not at the expense of missing the fiords. This is the BOM ocean prediction for AM tomorrow. The odds are slim.

Sadly for anyone aboard, if not yet announced, the AIS destination for Noordam has updated to: POE (Port Chalmers) December 13, 18:00 UTC (Thursday morning kiwi time)

Some ships list fiords as an AIS destination. Some ships don't as scenic cruising isn't a destination. Noordam is still heading toward Milford Sound.

Tomorrow is a new day, so we will see.

Yes, ship time for passengers, UTC for the bridge. Can't have one without the other.

Rare Mareblu Posted December 12, 2023 #16 Share Posted December 12, 2023 The Sounds truly are spectacular. We have visited on land, before a very bumpy flight back to Queenstown in a small plane. We were disappointed not to experience sailing into this beautiful, pristine area in January this year. You are obviously sailing with a clean bottom😂
