vision14k Posted December 31, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2023 Talk some sense into me someone… We paid about 5k for 3 of us (1 child) for an upcoming Wonder cruise (Balcony Cabin)… there is a JS available for an additional $3k…. We are 14 points away from diamond so this would help us reach that this cruise. Also, our child is two years old so it’s nice having a bathtub BUT is $3k worth it for this upgrade??! cruiseguy1016 Posted December 31, 2023 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2023 (edited) Not for me. Paying an additional 60% for a bathtub and a little more floor space is not worth it to me. But... My financial situation may be different than yours and I'm not travelling with a two-year-old. Edited December 31, 2023 by cruiseguy1016
not-enough-cruising Posted December 31, 2023 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2023 $8K for a JS?? No way
zebra36 Posted December 31, 2023 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2023 Not to me, Almost double what you are paying , use the $'s to buy whatever drink packages you want for this and your next cruise and you should(?) reach diamond status by then. HicksRA Posted December 31, 2023 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2023 (edited) No. Use the 3k on another cruise. Maybe make it a back to back if you’re in a hurry to make D. Edited December 31, 2023 by HicksRA

PhillyFan33579 Posted December 31, 2023 #9 Share Posted December 31, 2023 I have never paid $5K for a balcony, not to mention $8K for a JS. Add me to the list of responses saying no.

Tlbecker1 Posted December 31, 2023 #11 Share Posted December 31, 2023 Definitely “no” for me! Not worth it IMO.
Rare notscb Posted December 31, 2023 #12 Share Posted December 31, 2023 I agree with other commenters- would 8k have been reasonable for a JS in the first place?
bgoff60 Posted December 31, 2023 #13 Share Posted December 31, 2023 (edited) We have a Junior Suite on Adventure OTS sailing in about a week. (Just two of us and it is an EIGHT night cruise) Have had the reservation for about a 11 months - via a travel agent. All in, (Cruise, taxes, port charges, pre-paid gratuities, travel insurance) we are at: $3,300. 🙃 Edited December 31, 2023 by bgoff60
Starry Eyes Posted December 31, 2023 #14 Share Posted December 31, 2023 I don’t think it is worth it. An inflatable tub should suffice for a toddler. Making D one cruise sooner isn’t worth that much.
Rare Ozark_Kid Posted December 31, 2023 #15 Share Posted December 31, 2023 The diamond benefits you would get for 2 cruises are not worth $3,000.
Rare Tree_skier Posted December 31, 2023 #16 Share Posted December 31, 2023 Not a chance. I like the suggestion, if your time allowed, to make your cruise a b2b. However, even without that idea. I still wouldn't do it. Diamond is great but not that great.
George C Posted January 1 #17 Share Posted January 1 We paid about 5k for the two of us in grand suite on harmony out of Galveston earlier this month , people pay too much for the newer ships.

Mum2Mercury Posted January 1 #19 Share Posted January 1 I'm with the crowd: No, that's too rich for my blood. You could take a whole 'nother cruise for that 3K.
crazyfrazee Posted January 1 #20 Share Posted January 1 No way !! Royal has gone crazy with their pricing but as long as people continue to pay, they'll continue going up. My cruise next week will be my last with RC until the prices come back down. I swore I'd never step foot back on a Carnival ship but I recently ate my words. I booked a suite on a newer ship (Carnival Celebration) 7 days for $3100.
gmerick Posted January 1 #21 Share Posted January 1 It's your vacation. You got a great deal when you initially booked your cabin. You've been looking forward to it for a year. Don't second guess yourself. Doing a Royal-Up to a suite will get you no extra Diamond points. Those points only come for the cabin initially booked. Just sit back and enjoy what you've got. Don't worry about what might have been. Sure, you could have been a millionaire, Hollywood might have called, but you still have to go back to the same old grind at the (remote) office on Monday. FamilyCruiserUK Posted January 1 #23 Share Posted January 1 Nope not for me. I never understand paying to choose a room in the area you want to be to then pay again to upgrade and be put almost anywhere in that new grade. 🤷 If you win the bid.

That’s understandable, but OP’s considering a regular upgrade, not RoyalUp Edited January 1 by Starry Eyes
