michaelbr Posted January 10 #1 Share Posted January 10 I'm new to cruising, couldn't find any useful information about public transportation over the net, (some time a port has different locations depending on its use: cargo, passenger, ferry, etc.), trying to get transportation info in advance (before boarding), tried cruise lines and couldn't find it there either. clo Posted January 10 #2 Share Posted January 10 We're doing a cruise where I won't be doing all escorted tours. I have googled things like "transportation from the cruise terminal city xyz."
Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 10 #3 Share Posted January 10 I’ve often used the site Whatsinport.com as a starting point for planning and finding out what’s available. Info is more complete for more frequently visited ports. Cruise Cfitic also has sub-forums that cover most ports of call where people get questions answered about ports by knowledgeable cruisers (and a few locals).
ldubs Posted January 10 #4 Share Posted January 10 OP, if you have a specific cruise in mind, naming the ports might get answers from those who have been there. You are not likely to find anything from the cruise lines. They would prefer you pay for their "city center on your own" tours.
Rare martincath Posted January 10 #5 Share Posted January 10 Let us know which port(s) @michaelbr and there's a much better chance of getting the right info quickly - there are sometimes oddities around port access for which local knowledge might be better than Googling!
Rare 1025cruise Posted January 10 #6 Share Posted January 10 You should ask in the ports of call sections on these boards.

I'll also add that some cruise ships offer shuttles and they are way, WAY more than the public transit ones.

Oh definitely. I should have been more precise. I look at local sites.
donaldsc Posted January 11 #9 Share Posted January 11 Not surprising that the cruise lines will not give you the information even if they have it. They want to sell you ship tours which I assume are very profitable. Even if they did try to give you that information it probably be inaccurate and/or out of date. Use the internet for that information. DON
navybankerteacher Posted January 11 #10 Share Posted January 11 It always amazes me that people will spend thousands of dollars to see a different part of the world, and then fail to make an effort to identify particular items of interest and plan on how to see those of greatest interest. With the internet and libraries providing so much information, so many will rely on cut rate tours.
Rare Essiesmom Posted January 11 #11 Share Posted January 11 In another thread the OP is asking about the need for a US visa for an Alaska cruise from Vancouver, so maybe he is looking at Alaska ports. EM
