dmacleod Posted March 13 #1 Share Posted March 13 We are taking our first cruise with HAL at the beginning of June and will be disembarking in Seattle. I'm wondering what the disembarkation process looks like if we are not taking HAL transportation post cruise. We are actually planning on taking the Amtrak to Portland so I am trying to plan for that.
CruiserBruce Posted March 13 #2 Share Posted March 13 The debarkation process doesn't revolve around taking HAL transfers. You will be given the option to carry your own luggage off, typically starting about 7:30. Otherwise, you put your luggage out the night before, and either will be assigned a general time to get off, or self assign a time...both according to what your travel timing needs are. Rare Crew News Posted March 13 #3 Share Posted March 13 All passengers must be off the ship by 9:30 AM so your either assigned or chosen disembarkation time will be no later than 9:00 AM.
PlanetMoolah Posted March 13 #4 Share Posted March 13 Do all ships/ports disembark by 9:30, or is this specific to Seattle? We will be disembarking in Vancouver.

This is true of almost all cruise ships at all turn around ports. The ship needs to be made ready for a new batch of passengers, so that the ship is ready to leave on its next cruise late afternoon.

Welcome to Cruise Critic and to the HAL Forum. This is true for Vancouver. The HAL disembarking process starts at 7:30 AM and continues until 9:00 AM. Rare Ferry_Watcher Posted March 14 #8 Share Posted March 14 At Pier 91 on Saturdays and Sundays you will be disembarking along side passengers from Princess. If you are self-assisting (carrying off your own luggage), you will walk off the ship, walk along the terminal balcony, enter the building and take either the escalator or elevator to the luggage hall, when you will be directed to passport control (straight ahead), where CBP Officers will be looking at your passport or birth certificate. If you had your luggage picked up the evening before, to be picked up by you the morning of disembarkation, then in the luggage hall you will be asked to look at your luggage receipt tags that indicate what area your luggage is waiting for you. Since there will be 2 ships disembarking at the same time, pier-side staff will remind you to collect your luggage (HAL will be on the same side as the escalator that you descended, and the Princess off loaded luggage will be on the other side of the Luggage Hall). If I am not mistaken, HAL luggage pick-up will be on the left side of the luggage hall, and Princess will be on the right side. There will be lots of shore side staff to direct you. All passengers will line up in the 3-4 lines for the passport check. Once you have been cleared by the CBP Officers, you will be leaving a secure area, so make sure you have all your bags. At this point you will be heading outside. Pre-paid airporters will be on your right. Taxis will also be ahead on your right-side. There is a shuttle to the Uber/Lyft pick up area at parking slot A & B, also located on your right side. If you are walking to the Uber/Lyft pick-up area (about a 10 min walk), the you will follow the pathway on your left. Pick up by hired car, or by a friend/family member is also on the left side.

Thanks so much for the detailed response. I’m glad we can put our luggage out and won’t have to worry about hauling it off the ship ourselves.
