mdj59 Posted March 31 #1 Share Posted March 31 This question was asked in the Hawaii Ports of Call board, but didn’t receive much traction. I’m hoping that some of our Princess friends might have some insights and recommendations to share. Mahalo!

I would strongly recommend a fixed-wing flight, they are much less expensive than helicopter flights. https://www.wingsoverkauai.com/ Wings Over Kauai Air Tours is located at Lihue Airport. Easy to get there from the ship.

LeeW Posted March 31 #4 Share Posted March 31 We took the blue ones in Kauai a number of years ago. Check trip advisor for current companies. Would expect that a lot of them have changed owners with covid.
Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted March 31 #5 Share Posted March 31 We've used Blue Hawaiian Helicopters twice now. Yes, pricey...but it's not something that you will likely forget! Don't know if they still do this, but they used to offer the flight video for sale after you land.

That one was on my bucket list. Feel bad that my video got lot during the move.

Rare cr8tiv1 Posted April 1 #8 Share Posted April 1 I can't remember which tour company I used, but "Ernie" was the pilot. A Vietnam helicopter pilot who was skilled, but not a dare devil. We were able to fly close to Waialeale Falls, the wettest place on earth. Kauai is a place to see by helicopter since there are so many remote places like the NaPali Coast Line. Also took a door's off helicopter ride over an active lava flow on Hawaii Island.

We're looking at a trip with Wings Over Kauai in September, but don't want to rely on the taxi rank / Uber to get to the airport and back to the ship. Thinking it's either a walk (approx. 2.5 miles) or trying the rental car shuttle bus without a booking.

Using a taxi from the airport shouldn't be a problem. https://airports.hawaii.gov/lih/getting-to-from/ground-transportation/taxicab/ 25 minutes ago, Owenny said: Thinking it's either a walk (approx. 2.5 miles) or trying the rental car shuttle bus without a booking. Using the Alamo or Hertz rental shuttle is a nice idea. 😄 But I'm not sure if the drivers checks reservations first. Or maybe give them a call and ask if they pick you up at the port. It's a 6 minute drive.

As far as I know, neither Alamo nor Hertz offers a shuttle to the port, just Avis/Budget.

It would be a brutal walk, uphill a good bit, and in tropical heat and humidity.

Just Avis/budget shuttle in May. The 1st shuttle was full and had to leave people for the next shuttle, they were only taking drivers, you needed to drive back to the port to pick up your passengers. I don't recall them checking a list, but I wouldn't want to be taking someone's seat who was actually renting.
