DorothyB Posted June 9 #151 Share Posted June 9 I've used misc cards in the slots before, but surprised to see so many using hotel cards - I thought they were supposed to be returned?

I've had a couple places tell me in the past that I didn't need to stop by the desk on checkout day and I could just walk out so I just do that and take the card (if I get one anymore since I signed up for Hilton Honors and just use the app to check in/out and open my door).

I can’t speak to all chains, as I typically stay in Hiltons and Marriotts, but in those two they say not to bother returning them. I just figured it had something to do with sanitation.
DorothyB Posted June 9 #154 Share Posted June 9 Maybe they don't have to be returned any more? or maybe depends where you are. I'm just used to either dropping it off at the main desk or leaving it in the room.

I usually like to keep at least one with us until the very last minute, just in case…. But, I recall being told to just toss them.

Rare eileeshb Posted June 11 #158 Share Posted June 11 even something like a business card works in those power slots, I've used the card hotels give you the key in for those slots in hotels for years.
Rare debenson0723 Posted June 11 #159 Share Posted June 11 On my last 2 cruises they have actually had a card in the slot when entering the room. It's cardboard and I keep it in there the whole time. Just lift it up a little to deactivate the electricity when leaving, push it in when I come in.

The dry dock wasn't long enough to get them all! I wonder if they are continuing to change the light fixtures while sailing.
stellarose33 Posted June 20 #162 Share Posted June 20 sweet I have a balcony on NCL getaway.
dexddd Posted June 20 #163 Share Posted June 20 On some ships leaving the card in when gone shows room as occupied with the lights outside so it won't get cleaned.
AlmiranteChurruca Posted June 20 #164 Share Posted June 20 I can confirm that solo cabins also have two USB slots next to the desk. One is the old type and the other one the new C type.
WexIrl Posted June 20 #165 Share Posted June 20 Our balcony room had them USB ports by the beds, I did not use them, old habit of using the power socket by the mirror with the travel adapter continued on the 6th June cruise... I brought it so I am gonna use it stubbornness 🤣

Never mind. Found my answer on Google. The answer is no. A USB port doesn’t put out enough voltage to power anything more than a phone, etc.

cabincop Posted June 21 #171 Share Posted June 21 now I will get a 6 foot usb cable for the phone by thebed. A six foot wasn’t long enough to reach more than foot of bed. Just got off her in May before drydock. But I thought they put USB ports during dry dock, so why do you need a long cable

A 6' cord is needed for these to reach easily.
Matahari47 Posted June 23 #173 Share Posted June 23 We’ve been off the ship a week. We had a good time but there were a few issues which have left a very sour taste in our mouths. - itinerary changes!! One not even communicated until check in at Southampton, when you were given a sheet of paper with revised itinerary. - public are toilets constantly blocking up - no soap in public restrooms - our cabin was like something from the dark ages - ancient fittings, teeny tiny, broken stuff and none of the elusive USB ports people have mentioned and absolutely zero storage aside from wardrobe. We ended up leaving a lot of our stuff in suitcase under bed! Room was made up as a twin room on arrival. - as a disabled passenger there was no provision for adapted cabin despite us requesting one - guest services blatantly lied to us when they said they would move us next day. When we checked again the next evening as we hadn’t heard anything, the rep hadn’t even logged our room issue! - shuttles - so, so badly managed. Not enough buses for volume of tickets sold resulting in standing in line for 90 minutes after paying $20 per person for the privilege. Same the next day, when the shuttle sold out?! - smoke still permeates the air around the casino, people still trying to smoke despite it being non-smoking - buffet area had food ground into the carpet, stale pancakes at breakfast, slow to replenish cutlery and clean the tables - staff were on the whole lovely, but NCL have definitely cut back on staff as they were all run ragged! - Disembarkation was absolute chaos. Left our room at 8am. Joined a long line winding round deck 7, got into terminal at 12.20, then we had to stand in a taxi queue for an hour….never known anything like it and we’ve sailed into Barcelona twice before. This was our 8th NCL cruise and we’ve decided it is our last. Definite downgrade in quality, service and experience.

This was our 8th NCL cruise and we’ve decided it is our last. Definite downgrade in quality, service and experience. Sorry to hear you had so many problems. Some are ordinary though. Room: Were there just 2 of you? What cabin type? There is normally plenty of storage room for 2 people unless you are the type to bring 2 suitcases each. Disembarkation: to be expected. Customs/immigration with many nonresidents, and nearly everyone needing to get to the airport and trains. You were lucky before. Even NYC gets long line problem sometimes. What was the reason for the move request - accessible room? If there wasn't one when you booked don't expect one to clear up. Book a different cruise. Beds - often are not made up as wanted, you just let your steward know and will be set up when you next return. I agree the other things are annoying but would not ruin my cruise.
