deltahog Posted May 15 #1 Share Posted May 15 Voyager of the Seas late August (Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, Palermo, Valencia, Barcelona). I see the sale today and tomorrow 17.99/person internet and it says normally 26.99. But we have $150 OBC also. So I am trying to analyze as a cheapskate, which brings the following questions. 1) Can OBC be used toward gratuities? 2) Can internet/wifi be bought by the day instead of the whole cruise? If so what is the daily rate? Once on board, of course. 3) What is the "four devices" thing? As a party of two, with one phone each and maybe one laptop, can we buy one plan and switch off as the current active user on these three devices? 4) When visiting US ports we usually don't buy onboard wifi and just use cell towers in the port city. Is this an option in the listed itinerary cities above?
smokeybandit Posted May 15 #2 Share Posted May 15 OBC is just like a credit card statement credit. Whatever gets charged to your onboard account will draw from the OBC until it's gone. Daily rate is usually $10-$12 more than the pre-cruise rate.

It's usually about $28 for a 24 hour period. You should have local cell access in every port. You can use a one device package on as many devices as you want, just one at a time. LilBlackDress Posted May 16 #4 Share Posted May 16 I need to keep in touch with people back home while I am out of town. When cruising with my husband I usually get the Vooom (internet package) for one person and one device that we split. When cruising with my extended family I get one person with 4 devices

You can also look at the difference in the shopping cart. 4. Yes. If you really want to save and are tech savvy, buy one device and use a router. Have 1 person with the international plan and use that as a Hotspot if needed. Helpful if driving (been there before!).

These are helpful. This is what we did last year on Princess -- one person 2 devices, switch off when it's my turn to text or browse. BUT, what's the difference in "one person 2 devices" and "two persons one device each"? Is it only that now each can use their own device at the same time? Other than that, each plan is just W on her phone and H on his phone. Edited May 16 by deltahog

Both can use two devices at the same time. The two one device packages will have different logins (and likely will be more expensive), the one two devices package will have the same login. Tatka Posted May 16 #8 Share Posted May 16 (edited) We are D+ so we have 2 days each, so we buy on board 1 device package and share it. We do 2 free days for me and then use husband's 2 days discount for remaining days. At 17.99 we are still better off doing so (buying on board) even on 12 days cruise. We compared totals on board and pre-cruise. If we did not have 4 free days (or rather discount equal to 4 free days) we would use pre-cruise sale as it is clearly cheaper than buying on board. Usually per day it is $27-29, and if you buy for whole cruise on board it will go down per day, but not lower than $23.99 I think. I always need internet... even though in ports T-Mobile gives me free data + text, but I need to have it at night too. If you only need internet on seadays then maybe it makes sense to buy separate days and total will be lower depending on the cruise length. It's all Math. 🙂 Edited May 16 by Tatka

I did buy the sale today, $215 for 1 person/2 devices/7 days, and it showed about $98 less than the list price.

Tatka Posted May 25 #11 Share Posted May 25 Just an example of internet cost on board (Symphony ots, second day of 7 day cruise) Unless you have C&A discount (preferably D+) it’s better to buy before in most even if price is $23.99 per day. It's all Math. 🙂 There was a sale on black Friday where 1 person and 4 devices. The initial device was $20,99, 2nd @ $14. 3rd @$ 4.98 and 4th @ $2.01 pp/pd. I was in a separate cabin and shared the internet plan with my son and family. I sail solo and usually I don't get internet service the first day, then I use my D+ 2 days free and then use my Prime Casino discount of 30% for the remaining package days.
