We have been to Rome numerous times and just want to spend one night in Civitavecchia before our cruise in September. Can anyone recommend a clean, comfortable hotel not far from port with restaurants nearby. We may go to Tarquinia for a half day while there. Would that be feasible? TIA

Tarquinia is quite feasible, there is a Cotral bus that goes there direct from Civitavecchia.

Where to locate Civitavecchia is a bit of a conundrum.  There are more hotels and restaurants near the southern (Fortezza Michelangelo) entrance but the shuttle buses are not supposed to stop here for the new cruise terminal, so you'd either have to pay for a taxi or walk with your luggage (about a mile), assuming your cruise berths there.  If you are berthed in the northern slots you can get the shuttle from the fort to the Largo della Pace transportation center, then another to the check in area.

There are a couple of B&Bs near the Largo della Pace transport center, but the center of town and more restaurants is only three quarters of a mile on foot.

If you're planning to pay for a taxi to the ship regardless of where you stay, then I'd look nearer to the southern entrance where you have more options.
