occasional cruising Posted May 27 #1 Share Posted May 27 If this helps one passenger San Diego to Vancouver, big smile. We had planned to take the train to San Diego the morning of departure. The San Diego train depot is a five minute walk from the cruise terminal. Perfect! We bought our tickets quite a while ago. While we have heard not a word from Amtrak, the website seems to indicate that the train will terminate twenty miles or so north of the San Diego train depot as they will be doing some serious railway repairs. There apparently is some bus service and I assume Uber etc. would be available, but at best, with luggage etc., this would be less than ideal. Thinking about dropping a rental car at San Diego Airport and taking a cab or Uber to the ship. Hope this helps someone. 2

Is that the Solana Beach transfer between the Pacific Surfliner and the busses? Are additional dates listed anywhere? Amtrak only shows adjustments through June 4th, but I can imagine they'd have additional windows that work is being done after the 4th too. (I'm kind of curious for an event I have in July.) 360Guy Posted May 28 #3 Share Posted May 28 Due to the ongoing work on the line, I found this article which may be of help. If the train service terminates at Solana Beach, Amtrak does usually provide a bus service to San Diego station…and a short walk to the cruise terminal. You may want to call Amtrak for the latest information on the schedule and possible transfer. https://fox5sandiego.com/news/local-news/service-impacted-as-work-to-stabilize-del-mar-bluffs-along-lossan-railway-moves-into-next-phase/ 1
BEAV Posted May 28 #4 Share Posted May 28 @occasional cruising, the link buried inside the article @360Guyprovided says the only trains affected on June 24 are two early morning northbound (4am and 6am) departures from San Diego. This makes sense as the work is done overnight to provide the least impact on the traveling public. So unless the work window is modified going forward, southbound trains LAX-SAN on Monday morning June 24 are unaffected. In a worst case scenario, I’d take Uber/Lyft from Solana Beach station to the cruise terminal if things unexpectedly went south. 😉 https://www.pacificsurfliner.com/plan-your-trip/alerts/travel-advisories/delmarphase5/ 2
occasional cruising Posted May 30 Author #5 Share Posted May 30 We are going to get a driver to get to the cruise terminal. The possibility that the overnight work will not be complete is a risk that we would rather skip. Another alternative would be to drop a rental car off at the airport and Uber the short drive to the cruise terminal.
